"That cat is big!" "That cat is fat!". We have become accustomed to hearing things like that from those who visit us. To tell the truth, we usually make sure that our cat Miñe always has her food. First of all, because it's a responsibility to have a pet, it's a soul, a living being.... And if we decide to have her under our roof, it means taking care of her properly. Besides, we cat owners know that when they are hungry they are? Intense, to say the least. And who's to judge them? Even humans can get intense when they're hungry, too.
Now, what does Miñe eat? Since she was born she has been fed only and exclusively on cat's food, It's nutritious, easy to serve, no work to prepare. However, a while back, cat food became scarce, unavailable, and we didn't want to feed her dog food because we weren't sure it was wise 👎. That led us to reinvent what to prepare for her, and it also led her to adapt in her tastes. We know that cats tend to be picky eaters 😼. So it was weeks of trial and error, until we were able to find foods that she liked and were within our reach. Next, we will share one of the foods that he likes the most and that we often prepare for him: Corocoro 🐟. These are all my photos, taken with my Canon EOS Rebel t3i.

"¡Ésa gata sí está grande!" "¡Ésa gata sí está gorda!". Ya nos hemos acostumbrado a escuchar cosas así por parte de quienes nos visitan. A decir verdad, solemos asegurarnos de que nuestra gata Miñe tenga siempre su comida. En primer lugar, porque es una responsabilidad tener una mascota, es un alma, un ser vivo... Y si decidimos tenerla bajo nuestro techo, implica atenderla debidamente. Además, los dueños de gatos sabemos que cuando tienen hambre son... intensos, por llamarlos de alguna forma. ¿Y quién los juzga? Hasta los humanos pueden ponerse intensos también cuando tienen hambre.
Ahora bien, ¿qué come Miñe? Desde que nació se alimentó única y exclusivamente con gatarina. Es nutritivo, fácil de servir, no implica trabajo prepararlo. Sin embargo, hace un tiempo atrás, los alimentos para los gatos escaseó, no se conseguía, y no deseamos alimentarla con comida para perros porque no estábamos seguros de que fuera prudente 👎. Eso nos llevó a que nosotros nos reinventáramos qué prepararle, y también la llevó a ella a adaptarse en sus gustos. Sabemos que los gatos tienden a ser melindrosos para comer 😼. De modo que fueron semanas de ensayo y error, hasta lograr encontrar los alimentos que le gustaban y estuvieran a nuestro alcance. The first thing is to go to the market to buy fish. We have prepared sardines, corocoro, cataco, cachorreta, tuna, picúa, tajalí, and probably others. That's where I'm in action. The vendors sometimes say: "Come on, sir! Here is the fresh fish. Take some of these so you can eat a good fish at home today". And I usually smile thinking, "These people don't know I'm buying fish for my cat" 😅. Thank goodness I can't tell because I'm wearing my mouthpiece 😷. After agreeing on the price, I pay and leave as another satisfied customer.

Lo primero es ir al mercado a comprar el pescado. Le hemos preparado sardinas, corocoro, cataco, cachorreta, atún, picúa, tajalí, y probablemente otros más. Ahí estoy en acción. Los vendedores dicen a veces: "¡Venga señor! Aquí está el pescado fresco. Llévese de estos para que se coma un buen pescado en su casa hoy". Y yo suelo sonreír pensando: "Esta gente no sabe que compro pescado es para mi gata" 😅. Menos mal que no se me nota porque llevo el tapaboca 😷. Luego de acordar el precio, pago y me retiro como otro cliente satisfecho.

The preparation is very simple 👍. In a small pot you sauté garlic, onion and maybe something else, such as tomato. The purpose is to make the fish taste good. Then we add the whole fish. And when it is perceived that it has been able to take the flavor of garlic and onion, we add boiling water and a powdered food that you can get in the market, which serves as a carbohydrate when cooked. We grind the fish, and together with the powdered food it forms a thick, consistent mixture, like a paste. Although it is not very pleasing to the eye, it smells great! 😋 Most of the time, Miñe is very close to the whole process. She knows it's her food. I try not to watch her too much, because she seems to be watching me to make sure I don't skip any steps.
Since he knows that we keep his food in the fridge, he usually plants himself near it when he thinks it is time to eat. It is very funny to see her guarding it as if she is afraid that someone will come and steal what is inside 😾.

La preparación es muy sencilla 👍. En una pequeña olla se sofríe ajo, cebolla y quizás algo más, como tomate. La finalidad es que el pescado tenga buen gusto. Luego agregamos el pescado entero. Y cuando se percibe que haya podido tomar el sabor del ajo y la cebolla, agregamos agua hirviendo y un alimento en polvo que se consigue en el mercado, que les sirve como carbohidrato al cocinarse. El pescado lo trituramos, y junto al alimento en polvo forman una mezcla espesa, consistente, como una pasta. Aunque no resulta muy agradable a la vista, ¡huele muy bien! 😋 La mayoría de las veces, Miñe está bien cerca de todo el proceso. Sabe que es su alimento. Yo trato de no verla mucho, porque pareciera que estuviera velando de que no me salte ningún paso.
Como sabe que guardamos su alimento en la nevera, suele plantarse cerca de ella cuando considera que ya es hora de comer. Es muy gracioso ver que la custodia como si temiera que alguien vendrá a robarse lo que hay dentro 😾.

We are happy to be able to have what we need to make sure it is fed. And we often say it: we would rather take the bread out of our mouths if we could have her food. And so it will continue to be 😊😸😊.

A veces mientras come, suele hacer un par de sonidos breves, una mezcla entre maullar y ronronear. No sabemos si nos lo está agradeciendo, o si está diciendo algo así como: "¡Qué sabroso está esto!". Algunos al contemplarlo nos lo han preguntado, y no sabemos.
Nos contenta poder tener lo necesario para asegurarnos de su alimentación. Y solemos decirlo muchas veces: preferimos quitarnos el pan de la boca con tal de tenerle a ella su comida. Y así seguirá siendo 😊😸😊.
