The netgaurd app is extremely useful. It offers intuitive features for reduced data consumption in applications. 

Most applications are designed to access the Internet with or without your permission, but with the netgaurd application, you can restrict applications from accessing the Internet.

It has an option to restrict applications from accessing the Internet when using your mobile data and when connected to a WiFi network.
