Hello, friends of Holos & Lotus.

For a few days now, I've been meaning to participate in @charjaim's initiative on discomfort, but I wanted to analyze the topic thoroughly and write from a different perspective than other friends, like @daddyvaldes and @maylink, have touched on.
And thinking specifically about his works, where fear was a fundamental element of discomfort, I remembered the magnificent book *The Teachings of Don Juan* by Carlos Castaneda.

I remembered a line from the book where Don Juan asks Castaneda a question referring to a decision he must make (and I'm paraphrasing): Does this path have a heart?
Then he tells him that the path that has a heart is good. The one that doesn't have one is bad. The good one makes the journey happy and makes you strong. The bad one weakens you and makes you unhappy.
And I'll return to this point at the end of my analysis, because I now want to get into the topic at hand.
Don Juan also said that the man of knowledge (*and I'm going to reduce him to "man," and by man I mean the human species*) has four main enemies: **fear, clarity, power, and death**.

It just so happens that these enemies are four of the most uncomfortable in our lives.

**Fear**

Without a doubt, fear can make any aspect of our lives uncomfortable: fear of change, fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of loss, fear of risk, fear of the future, fear of death.
Not moving forward out of fear due to any of these fears can put us in uncomfortable situations. It causes us gradual discomfort as time goes by. I would say that we must face our enemies like the warriors Don Juan says we are. We must face fear and conquer it.
Only when we learn to conquer fear, to control it, and to master it, will we have the tools to combat that discomfort and move forward in life.
I'm not talking about not feeling fear; that's impossible. I'm talking about moving forward and getting out of that uncomfortable position, step by step. Moving forward without stopping.
This is how this enemy is defeated.

**Clarity**

There is a principle of philosophy that says that everything must be denied; everything must be questioned. Therein lies the danger of this enemy of man.
If we believe that everything is clear, that we are always right, and that there is nothing to fear, in the future, we will most certainly walk into the abyss.
Clarity can be as blinding as darkness.
In overcoming fear, clarity can blind us and lead us into an uncomfortable position. It can lead us to defeat or arrogance, to contempt.
Be very careful with this point, as it can be dangerous for us.

**Power**

My mother told me as a child: *If you want to know a man's true nature: give him power*
And that is one of the wisest maxims my mother taught me.
It turns out that power, this third enemy of man, doesn't put us in an uncomfortable position, but rather makes us uncomfortable for other people.
It's very easy to surrender to power. The greatest danger of this enemy is that the more we think we've mastered power, the more power actually masters us.
We must realize that this power will never truly be ours; we will never have complete control over our destiny. We can only have power over ourselves, and this is what we must learn to control at all times.
Only then, by having that self-control over power, will we know when and how to use it to our advantage and that of others.

**Death**

Of the four enemies of man, this is the only one that cannot be defeated. And it's the only one that tells us with how much certainty and confidence we have overcome the three previous enemies, because when we fear neither power, clarity, nor death, we can say we have conquered fear.

Death is inevitable; it always comes to us, sooner or later.
Hence the need to live a full life and enjoy every day on this earth. We must be happy, each day we must resolve to help others with all our might. We must resolve to be better at what we do and move toward that entelechy José Ingenieros spoke of.
Only in this way, I believe, will we be able to easily emerge from all the zones of discomfort that arise in life.

Hola, amigos de Holos & Lotus. 

Desde hace unos días he querido participar en la iniciativa de @charjaim sobre la incomodidad, pero quería analizar bien el tema y escribir desde un punto de vista diferente al que otros amigos, como @daddyvaldes y @maylink han tocado. 
Y pensando precisamente en sus trabajos, donde el miedo era un elemento fundamental de la incomodidad, recordé el magnífico libro *Las enseñanzas de Don Juan*, de Carlos Castaneda.

Recordé una frase del libro donde don Juan le hacer una pregunta a castaneda refiriéndose a una decisión que él debe tomar (y lo parafraseo): ¿Este camino tiene corazón?
Luego le dice que ese camino que tiene corazón es bueno. El que no lo tiene, es malo. El bueno te hace feliz el viaje y te hace fuerte. El camino malo te debilita y te lo hace infeliz.
Y este punto lo retomaré al final de mi análisis. Porque quiero ahora entrar ya en el tema que nos toca.
También decía Don Juan que el hombre de conocimiento (*y lo voy a reducir a “el hombre”, y por hombre hablo de la especie humana*) tiene cuatro enemigos principales: **el miedo, la claridad, el poder y la muerte**.

Sucede que estos enemigos son cuatro de los que más incómodos que hay en nuestra vida.

**El miedo**

Sin duda alguna el miedo puede volver incómodo cualquier aspecto de nuestra vida: el miedo a cambio, el miedo a lo desconocido, el miedo a fallar,  el miedo a perder, el miedo a arriesgar, el medio al futuro, el miedo a la muerte.
El no avanzar por miedo por cualquiera de estos miedos puede ponernos en situaciones incómodas. Nos provoca una gradual incomodidad a medida que pase el tiempo.
Daría que debemos enfrentar a nuestros enemigos como los guerreros que dice Don Juan que somos. Debemos enfrentar al miedo y vencerlo. 
Solamente cuando aprendamos a vencer el miedo a controlarlo y dominarlo tendremos las armas para combatir esa incomodidad y avanzar en la vida.
No hablo de no sentir miedo; eso es imposible. Hablo de avanzar y salir de esa posición incómoda, paso a paso. Avanzar sin detenernos.
Así se vence a este enemigo.

**La claridad**

Hay un principio de la filosofía que dice que hay que negarlo todo; hay que cuestionarlo todo. Ahí radica el peligro de este enemigo del hombre.
Si creemos que todo tenemos claro, que siempre tenemos la razón y que no hay nada que temer, en el futuro, con toda seguridad, caminaremos hacia el abismo. 
La claridad puede cegar tanto como la oscuridad. 
A vencer el miedo la claridad puede cegarnos y llevarnos a una posición incómoda. Nos puede conducir a la derrota o a la arrogancia, al desprecio.
Mucho cuidado con este punto, que puede ser peligroso para nosotros.

**El poder**

Mi madre me decía de pequeño: *si quieres conocer la verdadera naturaleza de un hombre: dale poder* 
Y esa es una de las máximas más sabias que me han enseñado mi madre.
Resulta que el poder este tercer enemigo del hombre no nos pone en una posición incómoda, sino que nos hace incómodos para las demás personas. 
Es muy fácil rendirse ante el poder. El mayor peligro de este enemigo es que mientras más creemos haber dominado al poder, el poder nos está dominando a nosotros. 
Tenemos que darnos cuenta de que este poder nunca será nuestro de verdad nunca tendremos el total control de nuestro destino. Solamente podemos tener el poder sobre nosotros mismos y esto es lo que debemos aprender a controlar a toda hora. 
Solo así, teniendo ese autocontrol sobre el poder, sabremos cuándo y cómo usarlo a nuestro favor y el de las demás personas.

**La muerte**

De los cuatro enemigos del hombre, este es el único para que no se puede vencer. Y es el único que nos dice con cuánta seguridad y certeza hemos vencido a los tres anteriores enemigos, ya que, cuando no se le teme ni al poder, la claridad, ni a la muerte, podemos decir que hemos vencido al miedo.

La muerte es inevitable, siempre nos llega, más tarde o más temprano. 
De ahí la necesidad de vivir una vida plena y disfrutar cada día en esta tierra. Tenemos que ser felices, cada día proponernos ayudar a las demás personas con todo nuestro poder. Debemos proponernos ser mejor en lo que hacemos y avanzar hacia esa entelequia de la que hablaba José Ingenieros.
Solo de esta manera, creo que podremos salir con facilidad de todas las zonas de incomodidad que surjan en la vida.
