You already have a metric for deciding. I'm not sure what 100+99+...1 is but if you give each person amount of token based on reverse rank in top 100, (ie 101 - position in top 100) that's one possible way to do it. Maybe you could also through them out based on your curation trail.

With the Arcange tool... would it be hard to search for longest comment?  Or most upvoted comment? Or comment with most replies?

A tough road to travel finding people to pass some tokens on to. Making it easier for the token holders to do a little distributing of their own engage tokens would be nice too. I am only guessing that when someone uses that **!** drama, that it is coming from the drama token pocket and not their own.  It is not hard to use the steem engine transfer thing, but it would be nice if all I had to do was something like how tipu works and leave a quick tip after I replied to someone that would automatically take the token from my pool and distribute it. Have you thought of doing something like that where we deposit our own engage tokens and are able to use them easily as a tip function? I've not used tipu yet, but have been thinking about trying it.

Well I guess the first step will be describing what "engagement" means, its a word thats thrown around around here.
Personally, I think engagement goes beyond just comments that receive the most responses,  I think for example funny comments that get posted randomly can count as engagement.

Anyways, I'm up to the task(observing comments), I like the whole grass to (unexpected) grace background of the token.

I say an Asher Comment Army can be a solution with a Montly Monetary Moment , to give out ENGAGIES. Delegate tasks is the only way to not miss any Gems, and maybe keywords ( like the pie from last year )  in a comment ( like a tag ) that your ENGYBOT Will recognize.

But I wouldnt know enough about this stuff I am just starting engaging here on the platform, do you now of any leaugues I can participate in so I would meet steemians .

I guess my starting point would be to define *"What IS Engagement?"*

* Is it just comment exchanges between *you* and someone?
* Does it involves upvoting, or just commenting?
* What is the metric for a comment to have "value?"
* Does someone having contests counts as engagement?
* What about "Community Championing?"
* Rewards for "one-off" vs. "ongoing" engagement?

I think the ENGAGE token is a great idea, but agree that it needs to have a "definition" of sorts attached... ALSO because that establishes the "value." If it's too easy to get, then the value is low. If it's too hard to get, then *interest* will be low.

As the issuer of the token, then YOU get to fill in the following blank:

*"I, @abh12345, issued this token in the hopes it could be used to encourage _____________________"*

Hereunder, do you sincerely want it to become *"something,"* or was it mostly a case of wanting to experiment with steem-engine? And saying that you were "just playing around" is NOT a "wrong answer." 

Then there's the follow-up *(which you've already alluded to)* of just how much *time and effort* you want to put into this. 

Using some kind of bot to distribute the token might sound tempting, but a bot doesn't know "value" from a hole in the ground, which leads back to a bot that HAS to be called to a post by a human... like the "tip" feature.

It's certainly your token, and I think there should be criteria to avoid giving it to scammers, spammers and bots, but I still think there needs to be an exchange between two or more participants that lasts a minimum amount of comments that maybe you keep secret. The comments don't need to be posts themselves, but they do need to keep the conversation going, and I guess to earn the ENGAGE token, they need to be engaging to someone beyond the principle engagers. And I guess, that would include you, too, if you're going to be checking curator's work.

Oh, and how much for the pie? 150 like with the previous ones? :)

@whatsup. I'm tagging him as I like his idea of creating a bot to help distribute tokens and those that hold more than x tokens (in his case 10) can help distribute said tokens.

In his case it's looking for drama, but in your case it can be give an engage tokens to those that feel people have made truly exceptional comments either on your own posts or others.

I think he also has a limit so only so many tokens can be distributed each day using the bot, I'm sure to help prevent abuse and to prevent from flooding the market.

It worked for me as I bought 9 drama last night so I can start distributing some drama tokens of my own.

Equitable distribution is always a difficult topic. 

I just saw posts by someone who shall remain nameless that do not include any images and no text other than the post title that fetched hundreds of comments and obscene rewards (for the amount of effort put into the posts). Filtering out crap like that could be problematic for a bot unless it is craftily made.

Having people curate or allocate is also a problem because there will always be those who favour their own circle of friends or particular topics they favour. I see certain curation trails hitting the same authors again and again while there are so many more authors they could be voting on instead.

No matter what you do, it won't be perfect, so I suggest you look at the various ideas and just implement what you think works best based on what your goal is.

A group of people who actively read and/or respond to comments and are capable or allowed to issue ENGAGE tokens seems like a good idea. Should save you some time. If you're not willing to allow them to distribute tokens themselves, I would still go with a team of people. The only thing that would change is that they would give you a list with urls for comments to reward.

There is one thing to write a comment, but it's another thing to write a good, valuable comment that actually contributes. I guess there are ways to code and tweak stuff like that, but personally, I'd prefer to see this be done manually.

That being said, you would need a list of specific criterias to work from with something like that. For instance, if you reward a long comment more than a short one, if comments including images are worth more than others, if you would reward people more ENGAGE based upon prior upvotes to the comment or not... And yeah, the list goes on and on, but I think you've already thought of that.

I'm also interested in todays offer, how much is it, and how much ENGAGE does it take to get requested stuff?

A bit of a left field suggestion,  but here goes...

Team up with the [@steembounty](https://steemit.com/@steembounty) team. Instead of a teem bounty, holders of ENGAGE could put an "engage bounty" on the post. Then, distribution would happen automatically (as per steembounty's existing system) and those wanting to bring more engagement to their posts could buy engage from you or on the STEEM engine market.

As far as engagement goes, i have a hard time believing that just words should be awarding.(actions speak louder then words and all) They should be a starting point. But i yhink that those who are actively growing the community through words AND actions should be at the forefront for receiving your most coveted Engage token. 
That being said, how to help you find these gems....maybe as we go out in our great community and find that special someone, ee could tag that persons comment or action with a key word that you could search to find all the recommendations. Maybe somethi g along the lines of "$engage" or "!engage". Thats all i have for now, but i will continue yo think on it my dear friend. I hope the week is being kind to you.

Maybe some kind of a points measurement consisting of combined factors like:
- length of the comment
- whether the author upvoted this comment or not
- extra points if someone else upvoted this comment besides the author
- points if the author replied to the comment (so there is multiple comment -> reply tree structure)

I still like the idea of distributing based on the Engagement League but maybe you can also expand to the Red Fish and Minnow leagues.  While they are focused on growing, growth is achieved by engagement and could be the added incentive to motivate more growth and gets the smaller users to engae different with the ecosystem and Steem Engine is relatively new.
