I remember thinking before while listening to friends and family playing songs on the guitar after weddings or at parties here in Ireland: "Why did I never get music lessons when I was a kid?". Some of my siblings got piano lessons, recorder lessons, guitar lessons, so why not me? Sure, it was blatantly obvious! I played every sport going. As soon as i had my chores and homework done in the evenings or at the weekends, I'd be straight out the door to play soccer, rugby, hurling, rounders, anything at all where I could compete against someone else.
It was only when I hit my 20s that I learned how to play the guitar. I bought a half decent one for around €150 and a Bob Marley song book and basically thought myself. Now to be fair, I'm no great shakes, but can play 12 or 15 different chords and find it very enjoyable to just strum away on the guitar. These days I seldom get a chance to play it, but I found a bit of time the last day, but it wasn't long until the boys heard me and wanted to join me for a session! My middle man has his own guitar, so the two lads belted out a few tunes and I just sat back and listened.
It got me thinking whether I should do the same or whether I should encourage both sport and music and I'm thinking the latter.
