Speaking in tongues is a gift that God gives to some particular people. Speaking in tongues does not mean that God loves some people than the other. It only means that God wants to give some particular people that Gift and this is why it is important to make good use of such gift. 

The meaning of speaking in tongues is speaking another language that is far different from your mother or native tongue. There are people who know how to speak in tongue not because they learned it but because God has given them the gift of speaking such language. 

When you are speaking in tongues, that may literally be your voice abd your tongue but have it in mind that it isn’t your tongue. It is the tongue of the Holy Spirit. Let’s put it this way. In such case, the Holy Spirit has taken over you and over your tongue. This is why you can fluently speak a language which you do not have any idea of.

Well, such time may not last. It may just be for the short period when the Holy Spirit has taken over you and uses you as a means of sending a message or passing an information to the listeners or people around you. 

In the Bible, Acts 2:4 says; ***All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.***

It is said here that *as the spirit enables them* which means that it is the Holy Spirit that gives the opportunity to speak in tongues. 
If you do not have this gift, there will be no need to force things. The Holy Spirit is the one who chooses those whom he will descend on for this gift. 

Speaking in tongues is an amazing act and also one of the wonders of the Bible.
