<div class="text-justify"> Hello and good evening everyone. It's actually quite funny how the systems have changed for countries to fight among themselves. For thousands of years, war was basically how many men can put on the field with weapons and sticks to beat your rival. And that has probably cost millions of lives. But it was always the only means of war. Yes, those armies still exist and countries spend billions and trillions of dollars in their army to make them more sophisticated and technologically superior. And doing that it has gotten to a point where all of this is really just for show. --- [Source](https://unsplash.com/photos/an-oil-rig-in-the-middle-of-the-ocean-kjk90_OSGZU) --- There's this new buzzword called deterrence. It has been introduced into the military dictionary since after the second world war. During the cold war countries, mainly the Soviet Union and America, made nuclear bombs. Both palsies knew how only one of them could wipe out their entire population, so obviously they never threw one at each other. But simply the possibility of if I throw first then they will also throw. One was enough for me to not throw one. And this is the whole idea of deterrence. You take a step back because you know your enemy has the means to destroy you. So in order to save yourself, you play safe too. So making the traditional armies into the new deterrents, the real war is now played on different terms. And that is energy and economy. Countries not simply but sanctions & you trade deals in order to suffocate their adversaries instead of just maybe bombing them or sending soldiers to the border. No it might have lessened the casualties and you think that this is a far better way to deal with your politics. But actually it has the same motive in the back. Country is trying to have sway over other countries. Previously it was through military prowess. Now it is through trade deals. If you take a look around you, then these trade deals then energy supply has played a huge role in the ongoing wars around the globe and in different wars before it. We know that in the Russia Ukraine war Russia tried to suspend natural gas supplies to Europe in order to suffocate them which was not much effective but a move nonetheless. We know that in the 1980s the war in Middle East, especially in Iran and Iraq was also influenced by the oil hegemonies of that time and if we have to go further back then we can head for the late 1960s in the after which suspended oil with Western countries which sparked the famous oil crisis of the '70s. So I believe such systems will be around for a long time. What's more important is that it completely shifts the power balance from countries having the strongest military to countries having the strongest economy, and I believe that's fair to some extent. </div>
