Checking on the [fear and greed index](https://alternative.me/crypto/fear-and-greed-index/) oftentimes offers a different perspective on the crypto market than a simple chart would. No doubt about it that charts do "tell a story" as well, but sometimes it is quite handful to get in touch with the psychology of the market as well.

BTC is aiming at touching $25k today, but the fear and greed index is still in the fear territory at 41 out of 100 points. We've passed the extreme fear season, but are not even close to greed, thus no need to **actually be fearful**. 

I've learned my lesson... twice in the past few years. If you want to make money in crypto you really need to be a contrarian. Had I dumped most of my bags every time the masses got greedy for the past two cycles or so, I'd be in a better position right now. 

The fear and greed index is a reflection of the sentiment of the masses. You don't get such type of sentiment coming from institutions or large whales. The masses, however, are not acting on their own, that doesn't happen in finance and neither does it apply in taking everyday decisions that can affect the "sheeple's direct lives".

These ones(the masses) need direction, confirmation, and bias, and you know what? There's not much of that on crypto Twitter right now and neither will you find any of them in media. Both are quiet about Bitcoin lately because **they don't know shit about what's next to happen in Bitcoin**. 

I personally don't have a clue either about what the price of BTC or any of my favorite alt will be in a week, month, or year from now. All I know is that a 70% correction for the BTC's price and close to 90% and even more in the case of most alts is quite an offer to me. 

You may catch the bottom, if lucky enough, it may happen, but why risk losing such great buying opportunities just for that? As I see EGLD performing lately, one of my fav coins, gradually appreciating in price, I kind of regret not buying more in the $50 area.

*It's all about the halving, right?* That's what I thought, until like two weeks ago when @edicted dismantled this belief. After the next halving occurs, which will be sometime in mid-2024, the miners will only get 3.125 BTC per mined block instead of the current 6.25 BTC they're getting. 

That translates to something like 160,000 freshly new mined BTC a year for four years ahead added to a pool of over 19 million coins out of a total of 21 million. That's like a drop in a bucket which makes the laving no longer such significant in influencing the market. So, what will influence Bitcoin's price for the next few years?

I guess mass adoption and regulations, inflation, and rate hikes will play a more important role in pushing the price of Bitcoin up and down in the years to come. Societal turmoil is a good candidate in that regard too. $24,000 BTC seems a fair price to me, it's actually a bit over the realized price of one BTC, thus I don't get why would anyone be fearful right now. 

$10,000 BTC? Not going to happen... $20,000 BTC? Probably, but it will be a short-lived dump if it happens. Getting greedy around these levels, whether BTC or alts, would not be the wrong move imo. What do you think?
