We could’ve been billionaires by now if we’d held onto some of the coins we once owned, judging by their charts and the insane performance they’ve had since we dumped them. Somehow, we’re pre-rich but just don’t know it. How funny does that sound? 

I don’t know if you’ve heard this story, but back in the early days of Bitcoin, some guy accidentally threw away a hard drive with the keys to a wallet holding thousands of Bitcoins.

Some say the hard drive “contained” that amount, but anyone with basic knowledge of how blockchain works knows you can’t actually store Bitcoin on a hard drive. Anyway, the point is, most of us in crypto have this burning desire to make it big overnight.

We dream of finding lost BTC, scoring airdrops, or stumbling into something similar. In reality, easy money in crypto isn’t so easy to get anymore.

The guy I mentioned earlier, who lost access to thousands of Bitcoins, tried every possible way to recover those lost drives. At one point, he even wanted to dig through the landfill where he thinks his drive might be, buried under a pile of trash.

I recently saw a [tweet](insert link here) saying he’s looking to buy the land and all the trash on it for a shot at recovering his lost drive.

This guy was lucky enough to buy or mine Bitcoin back when it was dirt cheap, and many of us would have wet dreams about being early adopters like that. But...How many of us could’ve held that much BTC for, like, 15 years without touching it? 

I bet 99.99% of the people fantasizing about this wouldn’t have survived the volatility. So many folks shit their pants over a 5% intraday dip, let alone enduring years of wild swings...

Recently, a few OG wallets woke up and dumped their Bitcoin. One was worth about $2.8 billion, holding something like 80,000 Bitcoins. I know everyone dreams about owning that much Bitcoin these days, but how many would’ve actually held through all that volatility?

It’s not like you can turn a few thousand bucks into billions overnight. That’s why there are so few billionaires out there. It takes serious patience and conviction to build those kinds of fortunes. Even then, once you’ve got a couple of million, you’re set.
