Pretty much my biggest pet hate is a load of comments on a post, without a single response.  

Greed, laziness, and a bunch of other things are the negative reasons.  

If you have a large account, you might be able to get away with this, but it's still gonna look shit for you.

I've had words with a few people, mainly because they are discussing engagement, or shilling themselves to be awesome for Steemit, and yet doing 0 of that they speak of in their blogs.

As a small account, it is essential to get through as many replies as possible / that are worthy of a response.  This is where you will pick up and keep followers.

I'm glad I found Steemit when I did, and learned that interacting with other people's posts in a meaningful way is the best way to go. So far so good! Steemit has helped me keep doing art full time, when I had been just about ready to start looking for a job to help make ends meet. I have had a hard time getting people who follow me on other platforms over here though, the main ones seem to censor Steemit links, mostly only other people already on Steemit seem to see my posts about Steemit on Facebook.

Great tips, you covered a lot of it! Just like in any aspect of life, there will be people around who will get overrevarded, but there is so many ways to imrpove yourself ...people will acknowledge your qualities-sooner or later. Same with Steemit :)

It's wise to invite your fans and friends and grow up together. the number of users is growing, and of course whales and group curators can not help everyone, each of us. There will always be those who go unnoticed. And so creating your own community, whose members grow together, support each other-it's great. You just need to forget about your own benefits for a while and act as a team. Thank you for your group coaching OCD, you give me great help at the time. And of course, ignorance of English is a disadvantage, but it is not a global disadvantage. I am not a native speaker, I write and speak with an interpreter. However, if you make an effort to work again and again to improve their knowledge and level, even without knowing the language at 100% you can write a great text. The Internet gives you a million options, just take them and use them for good. I think so.

I completely agree that it is key to interact with your followers. If people take the time to vote your post, and even leave an in-depth comment under it, it is simply rude (and stupid) if you ignore them. Next time they won't do this anymore.. and you lose your followers...

Many people still join Steemit thinking they will make easy money really fast. But unless you're lucky  with finding the right people that follow and support you, this is mostly not the case. And on top of that you need to get noticed too. 

I still have trouble finding the best tags now, even when I write about the same things a lot. So for a newbie this is one big mystery lol...

Sometimes it's hard to catch up on the comments by the way, because other things take priority at that time. I can state for myself, that when this happens, I feel guilty for not responding (fast enough) because someone took the time to read and comment on my post.

completely agree, the language barrier is an issue but like you said Hivemind should help all this and isn't the whole point of this blockchain to connect likeminded people from all around the world? Negative reinforcement (flagging users who have cocked up once or twice 24/7) will win the battle, but Positive reinforcment (@acidyo 's plan of flag then if learned or changed upvote) will win the war of making this platform the next evolution in human social media. Just wanted to thank you for massively boosting my account and the accounts of other actually great users like a madman, I know it doesn't look like much for now but I had aspirations to get more SP for my SBD's worth so I'll be watching the charts closely for a good re-entry point. Sorry for the appearance of just cashing out, it's an annoyance to me that the fiat price has been fluctuating so much and delaying my purchase.

Also, I wrote a... hm... kind of similar article recently, was spurred on by the dust vote debates and I covered my thoughts on spammers, seeing threads like yours flooded with everything ranging from the genuine to the harmless and clueless to the yes I am actually one bot of thousands in a botnet posting this comment in hundreds of other threads came to mind while writing my own article.

Hopefully we can get more engagement from  non-core Steemit languages with a bit of effort on our parts. Kind of bums me out to see people who are just trying to communicate or get started on steemit get smacked down so hard when people don't try to understand what they're saying. I know I for one can't speak their language as well as they can speak english, so it would be dickish if we didn't realize the shoe on the other foot would be rather uncomfortable if they had all the SP and just shoved their flag-foot up our collective asses for trying to talk to them in broken Bengali or Arabic or Spanish or something.

We recently created the steemit betting community with a <a href="https://discord.gg/SAEf6nV">discord channel</a> and a bot (@sbcbot) that gives free support to anyone who is on steemit with sports betting related content. Promoting this platform to outside betting forums has been on hold because of the registration delay issues. I will test those options out for sure.

Anyways, At times disapointment can also be a contributing factor to those seeking another way of earning. 
Imagine a post, that you personally accorded respect, you know (maybe in your mind) that this is **it** but such post ends in an uninteresting way.

It's a good strategy to involve other social media followers to steem post, i am new and going through every useful post to understand the finer points, before I can publish my first post. Let me tell you, after going through several posts, you are the only one who is interacting with ever one here.

Exactly! There was probably a time where just being a known YouTuber would automatically get you votes, but the novelty wears off. 

When people just paste their YouTube content over to here, I may toss them the occasional vote if I like them and just want to support them anyways and here's my chance, but I'd do it a lot more if they were actually *using* the platform. 

If it's worth it to have your content up here, it should be worth it to interact and use the platform in a sincere way.

Interaction is quite important in order to build up audience, I totally agree with you. However, I believe there are still a lot of hiccups to account creation which can be a major stumbling block to bringing more people on the platform.  Even the steeminvite option often times doesn't work without hitches. 


I have a Twitter account of about seven thousand followers and I have been sharing some of my contents with my followers, only a few have been able to set up account out of which very few stayed on the platform. There is a lot of work still  to be done in retaining users on the platform, hopefully the next hardfork will do something positive in that aspect.

I am very interactive on my own and other posts and I am hopeful that those are us who support each other will grow together and one day we will also be able to say

Not only that but the interaction is the only thing that keeps me going through the hard times. It can seem a bit of a roller coaster ride at times but, knowing that there are people on the same ride riding with you makes a huge difference, in my opinion.

Right on point. To many, Steemit is just a place to write something and then simply go abd receive the rewards. 
This is a COMMUNITY. Intereaction is one of the most important things about it. 
We should all grow together with quality content, and therefor obtain the most out of it.

The thing is the reason why most high earning users does not get comments or engagement is because they're posting to climb up the ranks with bid bot and earn, rather than engage really.

However If I do not like a post I don't read at all  why commenting, when you know the topic didn't interest you?

Thats what were resorting to now  using bid bot to get popular, well it's a decentralized system, I wasn't expecting anything more than I should.

I don't really have any other social media to advertise my blog on. So I'm really stuck just hanging around with different people here, and hoping they'll want to check me out. Luckily, it seems to be working well enough. 

I wish I had more comment engagement though. I get a decent amount of somewhat consistent votes on my posts, but I really don't get as many comments as I'd like.

As much as I really want everything not to be about the money, in order to drum up more comments, in my footer I even openly offer upvotes to literally any commenter on my blog.

Still though, the number of comments never even approaches the number of votes... and that makes me sad.

I like to try to comment and upvote every good interaction on what I post but I'm limited by my upvote value, but it has been slowly growing over time. 

I don't really have a following outside of steem because I started here but I do try to share my posts or other people's post when appropriate outside of steem groups on discord and telegram, I've posted a few things here and there on Reddit, Twitter and Facebook, with Facebook I got a few friends interested in signing up and they are in the process of getting their accounts 😏

This should be hung on a wall so that it would be the first thing a Steemian sees when he/she wakes up in the morning. Mutual support is key on this platform.

I just renewed my delegation of SP from blocktrades a day ago and usually I choose to have it for 90 days but it was the first time I faltered because it costs an arm and a leg to rent SP. 

I dont nearly earn in my posts to be able to cover almost 70 SBD to renew it and I don't self vote (although I don't see anything wrong with that except if you self vote yourself to 92%) although I do a lot of curation, more of votes is spread through communities that I support. 

I am not complaining because it was my choice to do all of these and to run a loss on my rental of delegations because there is more to life in Steem than ROI. 

One thing that I am proud for now is that I respond to all comments in my post. I get about 10-as high as 40 comments that I reply to and upvote all good comments. 

Knowing the dust threshold I need to make sure that my upvote on a comment is at least 0.03 so that on payout it will still reach more than 0.02. 

This is my way to reward those that take the time to read and comment on my thoughts. This is my way to try to increase their stake. 

I am no whale though as I am simply a minnow who rents delegations in the hope that by paying it forward I am able to make the platform better,

Some good points, why do not want to fanbase their platform big impact. This is way more likely to increase your revenue. See power abuse as a big problem here. Those who can earn enough money by upgrading their own post will not have problems with purchasing their content. If there is no fix for Steemit, we will not want to see anybody joining soon too soon.

Wow this makes me feel familiar, I'm from Venezuela and I really know very little Spanish, however this has not been limiting to undertake my trip in steemit, platform that in a great percentage is English speaking, I'm still learning the dynamics and even with the problems of curatorship and the recent fashion of delegating in big bots I feel it is an attractive platform and where a lot can feel really comfortable here, the way to attract followers has been interacting with them, but as you say a help in other networks really is a good idea! happy afternoon, excuse my English, use translator
