Unfairness hidden behind complexity and good intentions
I noticed something strange some time ago, unfortunately I jumped the gun with my resteem but then again it brought more attention to the "project" so it was okay. Basically there was a person who had set up an account to help aid Venezuelan authors as I'm sure most here on Steem know by now the crisis situation they have over there with hyper inflation, corruption, etc. Anyway, the project in question felt a bit odd at first glance already, but I figured it must just be a coincidence, either way I kept reading more.

After I had read everything I asked him a few questions since he was asking for more delegations, an important question was what was being done with the steem power on the account. He said something along the lines of "it will keep being powered up" which doesn't really say anything about it, so I asked if he would consider powering down some of the weekly curation rewards to aid the authors even more and he mentioned that "maybe" in the end if the project stops he would consider giving some away.

I got a bit triggered by this, not just cause of the upcoming changes of 50/50 but it obviously meant he will just keep them for himself, while asking for more delegations. But okay, if people want to delegate who am I to complain, right? Well, I dug a bit deeper. It turned out that what the project entailed was basically just autovoting some authors, the user didn't even speak the language I noticed in a comment so there was no real curation going on and as a manual curator that triggered me even more. I just wanted to forget about it at that point but for some reason I went to check on steemd and there I saw something that pushed me past the point of no return. The account was selling votes through smarsteem (for those who don't know, smartsteem lets you sell votes without delegating to it by directing your votes to buyers) and after I noticed the account had even received delegations by venezuelans, there was no turning back for me anymore or forgiving it. Didn't matter he said "it's to grow the account faster" or "it's just that not many are posting at the moment", then why the fuck are you asking for more delegations if whatever you have right now is too much already?

I ended up downvoting the post and never looked back after leaving a last comment.

It's just frustrating that there are some people hiding behind "good intentions" when all they're doing is just growing their own stake, especially in a case like this where people are literally starving and just because they may not understand the platform fully they think it's helping them.

Anyway, I decided to do something about it, I remembered a very active Venezuelan Steemian who's been amazing at interacting - don't wanna drop names just yet - but I am working on a way to create a much fairer project, possibly connecting it to OCD and not taking a 50% cut like in that case or in other similar cases some curation projects are unfortunately still operating in this day and age. It is sad but greed and selfishness exists everywhere, I guess being behind a monitor and cashing out that money without giving a second thought at the people you are letting down is easy to do for some people.

I have hope that with more people on our platform the good will start to outweigh the bad and that with the new rules of the ecosystem we will notice the bad even better and act upon it. I am looking forward to that future where everyone can feel the advantages of blockchain and the fairness it can bring you - if you give some back by working for it.

The project that you mention is called @help.venezuela and it is run by myself. The idea of this project is to provide constant upvotes to a selected group of authors from Venezuela. I mentor this group closely and I know many of the people quite personally.

I had started the project in December 2018 believing to have found a way to provide sustainable help to these people. Instead of sending them a one time amount, I've put 750 Steem into this project and powered them up. The idea was to be able to provide consistant upvotes for them. So that each time they produce a post, they get a nice upvote from the account. My idea was to grow the account as much as possible so that I could provide upvotes for more people and make these upvotes more powerful. At the moment there are 23 people supported. Among the people who were supported from the beginning the big majority is still active on steem and they increased they SP quite considerably.

<b>Why selling votes?</b>
I'm no programmer and I don't how to set up bots to upvote people, so I'm using the service beta.steemvoter.com to give the upvotes. This is not perfect and it happens, especially when there is a black out in Venezuela, that nobody can post anything. Therefore when selling the upvotes when the account is above 95% voting power, the account generates income all the same and can grow in SP. This SP allows to give again upvotes.

<b>Why ask for delegations?</b>
My idea at the beginning was not to ask for delegations but people wanted to participate and asked me to put delegation links.

<b>Why the project doesn't distribute the SP</b>
The SP is what allows the account to give upvotes. The delegations can disapear any day and what is left is the SP of the account. One of the bigger delegation was a price won in a contest by @theycallmedan and it was attributed for one year. Once this period is over there will be a big set back in the account and I try to compensate this by increasing the SP through curation rewards.

<b>About me</b>
I have a nice life, I live in Switzerland and run my own company. My idea was to help people and I believe that the project is quite innovative because it uses the possibilities of Steem and helps people by rewarding their work in a sustainable manner. I've been on steem for more than a year. I've never sold any steem nor powered down any of my accounts. Steem is my hobby. I don't need any income from steem and I won't need it in the future. I've spent some time in Venezuela in my youth and I understand Spanish quite well but I'm not capable of writing it. I know the country and I want to help the people in their difficult situation.

I don't want to distribute the SP of the account because I want it to grow, to give more upvotes to more people. I have no plan to power down this account and one day if I'm doing it, I will certainly not take this money for myself. My concept is like this and I agree that it would be possible to do it better. We don't have to agree on that.

I can't accept however that you call me a scammer and that you say that I use the poor to enrich myself. I would like to ask you to try to know me better before making a judgment. I'm always open for constructive feedback and I will gladly learn from you if I can do things better.

The good thing in all this, is that this brought you to extend OCD to Venezuelan authors. I think this is a great step because there are really a lot of venezuelan authors that produce great posts that are undervalued. I suggest to check out the following authors:
@lanzjoseg, @jenina619, @juanmolina, @reinaldoverdu, @hendersonp, @fucho80, @jadams2k18, @yomismosoy, @sacra97, @hlezama, @darthgexe, @equipodelta, @por500bolos, @manuelgil64, @topfivefamily, @nachomolina, @peraza82, @tramelibre, @spirajn

I thank you for taking the time to read this comment

Best regards,
Achim

>I will certainly not take this money for myself.

This seems to have changed from the "maybe" last time, huh?

I didn't call you a scammer, there are many projects similar to yours pretending to focus on curation when their end goal is to make as much rewards as possible. It's unfortunate that these seem to be focused on the spanish speaking communities and the reason I added this first to OCD is because we are planning on bringing back languages step by step but it's a bit urgent in this case. The way you and others are running them are not efficient in helping these authors grow and leaves a lot of leeway for abuse and selfishness. It doesn't matter how many times you say "this will not be powered down but used to grow" and keep justifying your system when you easily could make it more fair and efficient considering many Venezuelan users would be happy to curate their people for free instead of relying on autovotes with no oversight.

If you think I called you a scammer then that's on you. If you think I was harsh on calling your system unfair and the delegations from Venezuelans onto it unnecessary then that's my opinion. Deal with it.

I am also not interested in getting to know you better, time is valuable and I've already spent more than I would like on your answers and project. Actions speak louder than words and I hope you realize that in the future and change your ways but for now I am done wasting time on this matter. Good bye.

I've learned to value work and efforts done by @achim03

It's so sad that he and his project became targeted for absolutely no reason. Just because of "feeling" that something is not right with his project.

I saw something very similar happening on the blockchain. Same thing, someone asking for delegations and then instead of growing the account, regularly powering down and withdrawing Steem for themselves. No communication with supporters, no explanation, nothing. Needless to say, I want nothing to do with them. I didn't end up saying anything because I was so very disgusted that anything I would have said would not have been nice. I can only hope that people's behaviour will be influenced in a positive way, with the new changes. Steem has a lot of potential. I believe in that potential, that's why I am here. We can do some great things together!

If anyone cares to manually curate or seeks VZ STEEM bloggers for any reason, here is an incomplete list of them. I have been collecting VZ names for a few months for a project I have in mind.

I know a few of them well, but I cannot vouch for all of them, as sometimes I only saw one post. Also remember they cannot always post regularly due to power outages etc.

Grateful with that detail to take me into consideration, I love to write and at least I will have one, two or three posts daily, depending on the power failures (current), the internet or the tiredness sometimes the dirty dishes will stay in the sink because I prefer to write and giving me time to do it requires effort. I love writing is my reality. Thanks for that mention.
It is a good list of spectacular people, with a good pen.

Dear @acidyo

It's quite obvious that you're referring to @help.venezuela managed by @achim03

I got to know some people which are receiving support from this initiative and I engaged number of times with those users:
@lanzjoseg, @jenina619, @juanmolina, @reinaldoverdu, @hendersonp, @fucho80, @roronoa07, @jadams2k18, @nachomolina, @spirajn, @yonnathang

All I can say is that Achim intentions are very noble and those people on top of receiving some small upvotes, they also feel that someone out there cares about their faith. That means a lot.

> It's just frustrating that there are some people hiding behind "good intentions" when all they're doing is just growing their own stake, especially in a case like this where people are literally starving and just because they may not understand the platform fully they think it's helping them.

Please, be real. This account has nothing to do with @achim03 stake. I've been downvoted by you and I've heard already unpleasent words from you in the past. Is that how you treat other people too?

Right now all I know is that several people are grateful for his time, his work and his efforts. He could probably earned way more using this time to do anything else. And yet all he is receiving is "spit in the face" :( Sad. At least that's how it looks like ("greed and selfishness exists everywhere").

If you think that it's all about some "super-small" rewards then you're wrong. Creating sense of belonging, reaching out to those people, having personallized engagement - this is exactly what @Achim03 does. And he is super far from being greedy and selfish.

Yours,
Piotr

<div class="text-justify">

`It's just frustrating that there are some people hiding behind "good intentions" when all they're doing is just growing their own stake,`

Among other things, how is the witness doing for you?

I guess everyone is a slave to something ... fame, money, propaganda, publicity, self actuality, ...

Here are two advice for you:

1- We need logicians, not populists. Sensationalism will do more harm than good to the community, and it's usually obvious when someone is using it to portray himself as a hero.
2- If you want to announce something (project, initiative, ...), don't use an altar ;)

>It's just frustrating that there are some people hiding behind "good intentions" when all they're doing is just growing their own stake, especially in a case like this where people are literally starving

Yeah it's pretty sickening indeed. In a world where there is an abundance of food, the price for greed and selfishness comes at the expense of someone else's pain and suffering. Eye opening.

I like that you've been so vigilant after the hard fork. Vote selling and autos left unchecked could spell disaster for Steem in the long run. It's my opinion that anyone who runs autos or sells votes should be actively inspecting the posts their accounts vote automatically. There are a shitload of autos active with dead accounts. Abuses are rampant. I guess I'm gonna have to start downvoting, and I really was hoping I wouldn't have to, but I love Steem, so I must protect what I love.

Thanks for your contributions to Steem. Keep up the great work @acidyo!

I like you Piotr, but I am going to lay some things out to you, as I see them. I hope I do not offend.

Every time you show up on my blog, it seems you have an ulterior motive. I'm trying to remember the last time you showed up and simply commented on one of my posts without trying to re-direct me to one of your drama circles or support rallying.

Speaking of drama, it seems to be all I see with you. I've defended your character on your blog, while 50% of the people there were voicing that they do not like your wallet memos. This didn't seem to sway your behavior a single bit, just opened the door for rallying cries of woe. I recently responded to one of your [tags](https://steemit.com/@crypto.piotr/pxbfw6), and you didn't even respond back.. Perhaps it just wasn't drama oriented enough for you?

If you think I will spend time on your rally call to bash @acidyo, you are sadly mistaken. I've worked directly with him, and I know he is thorough.

>It's sad that someone with his reputation, person who is trying to help others and putting his own time and efforts on the line is being "bashed" here.

And what about the person who is *"bashing"*, What does he do for Steem? How many Steemians has he helped? What has the **OCD** project done for Steem? While bid bot stackers *(like yourself)* continually behave in ways that wreck the economy here..

This really feels like some kind of *"intellect leeching"*, I don't know how else to put it, as if you are hoping people who can eloquently compose words will come and defend your position.

Well buddy, I don't see how this is productive a single bit. What are you even hoping to achieve here? Such a vague and baity comment to me, which completely negates the reputation of the person you are claiming bashed him.

The first thing that I wonder, is why would @acidyo think this in the first place? It could be that he made a mistake, we are all human after all. Could it be that there was some transparency issues or communication errors? *(I really don't know, and won't spend the time for you to find out, because you spend no time for me, and don't even answer my uplifting comments on your blog.)*

Maybe you should make a post about it, and talk about how everything is unfair, then boost it to the moon and then make another post to talk about how you were unfairly flagged into the abyss.

Or....

You could start thinking of solutions and ask yourself what you are really doing to be a positive influence on Steem.
<center>
Best regards,
@futuremind
</center>

PS. I really do like you bro, and I hate to sound like such a jerk, but man... This is the reality of things how I see it, and I really do wish you all the best! I meant what I said in that comment too, and I do think you do your best and have good intentions, but maybe it's time to re-think some things man. Drama is useless and not productive.

Well done acid. I recall that post you refer to and read your etc also. It's a sad fact that many unscrupulous people hide behind *charity* or good deeds with the sole intention of keeping fund for themselves. The real world is full of it making it a tough decision to know who/what to support.

Well done to you on this, and for following up with something tangible and valid.

Kalau dalam peribahasa bahasa Indonesia :

Air susu dibalas dengan air tuba.

Artinya suatu kebaikan dibalas dengan kejahatan atau bisa diartikan sebagai orang yang tidak tahu terima kasih.

There is an Indonesian Proverb, the translation in English more less like this :

You give him a glass of milk but in the return he gives you a glass of poison.

This proverb has a meaning, you has helped someone but he paybacks or treat you with evil manner or in the short term is describing a person doesn't have great full or thankful.

Sorry if my translation isn't quite good. πŸ™

We have a project on helping Venezuela as well but not as bad as you mention above.

Let me introduce myself, I am a cyber worker(you can call it that way) of church of God which is led by brother [Eli Soriano](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliseo_Soriano) to help Venezuela and Nigeria by upvoting their comment and post.

![Screenshot_20190908-134347_Twitter.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmVCwUHTr2AWLfebEJM5LMDy8LttrxfadnHVLUAGuZwC2j/Screenshot_20190908-134347_Twitter.jpg)

https://twitter.com/elcaminoantiguo/status/1117891913313423360?s=19

This is the confirmation in our official twitter account that I have the rights to post his video on Steemit.

Brother Eli Soriano and Brother Daniel Razon is philantrophist and running different [charity programs](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Razon#Charities).

I talked to him(brother eli) about Steemit when I am in brasil and he got interested of helping people with economic needs by upvoting them.

I am looking for your support by manually voting people who makes video comment in our topic which you can find in hashtag #broelisoriano. Or if you pleased, you can delegate on us so we can manually curate them all. We have many charity programs all over the globe so for the meantime we cannot focus all our resources to buy up steem power. Can I private message you?

(Disclaimer: I am voting for this comment for more visibility)

P.S.
It's like hitting two birds in one stone. Promoting the words of God by helping people. Also, bringing more people here on this wonderful blockchain.

Meh, I don't like that system much tbh, voting up comments is annoying when you're reading through the comment section and brainlessly voting on posts isn't that much better. :shrug:

To your first point, I don't understand. What voting up comments do you mean?

As far as brainlessly voting, well, you can choose only to sponsor authors that you trust to produce good content.

Haha nah not that spammer. I even offered him curation support if he would just return the steem he "borrowed" from people, my votes would've easily paid it all back but then it turns out even has art was plagiarised. xD

Um, I delegate to two Venezuela-help accounts. Didn’t look that closely at either.

>Anyway, I decided to do something about it, I remembered a very active Venezuelan Steemian who's been amazing at interacting - don't wanna drop names just yet

If it’s who I think you mean, excellent choice. Keep us posted.

> I guess being behind a monitor and cashing out that money without giving a second thought at the people you are letting down is easy to do for some people.

I don't understand how that's easy for anyone to do in any situation >_<

Only vaguely related, your tag sentence amuses me XD I shall await the inevitable tumblr-style sentence tags.

Good luck with the thing you have in mind!

Your concern is admirable. Moreover, the actions you can take.

I know of many Venezuelan authors, who every day show their talent and dedication within the platform. Sometimes not taken into account enough.

We don't want anything given away, willing to do our best to give value to STEEM and be taken into account for it, be rewarded as we deserve.

I celebrate your initiative, thank you!
