El Circuito de Yas Marina en Abu Dhabi nos ha sorprendido frecuentemente a lo largo de los años. Recordamos en aquel lejano 2010 como un joven Sebastian Vettel, que nunca había liderado el campeonato aquel año, gana un Gran Premio en donde sus rivales no pudieron tener la mejor carrera de todas, generando que Vettel sobrepasara en puntos a Alonso y Webber, obteniendo así su primer título mundial. Algo similar podría ocurrir en este próximo Gran Premio de Abu Dhabi de 2022, solo que no por el campeonato del mundo, ya asegurado por Max Verstappen, sino por el subcampeonato.

Con este precedente histórico, y con el rendimiento mostrado en la última carrera en Brasil, el equipo Mercedes podría lograr algo similar con su piloto joven George Russell. El británico se encuentra en el 4to lugar del campeonato del mundo a falta de solo una fecha para culminar la temporada. Sergio Pérez y Charles Leclerc se encuentran empatados en puntos en el segundo lugar. 290 puntos comparten el mexicano y el monegasco. Quizás la mayor atención la reciban estos dos en este momento y en la carrera, pero personalmente no dejo de pensar en Russell y la posibilidad de lo que parecía imposible al inicio de la temporada.
Russell posee en su bolsillo 265 puntos. Una victoria por si sola no sería suficiente para asegurar el campeonato. Ni siquiera es suficiente que tanto Pérez como Leclerc se queden sin sumar puntos en esta última carrera. Russell deberá ganar y lograr la vuelta rápida, a la vez que ni Pérez ni Leclerc logren sumar puntos. La victoria le otorgaría 25 puntos, sumados al punto adicional de la vuelta rápida, le darían el segundo lugar del campeonato, si es que Charles y Sergio no suman puntos.

Hay un escenario en el cual Russell ganaría sin vuelta rápida y no puntúan sus rivales. Habría entonces un empate entre 3 pilotos en el segundo lugar del campeonato. En este caso, todo se movería a favor de Leclerc, quien posee más victorias en su haber (3), a diferencia de Pérez, que posee 2 hasta el momento y Russell también tendría 2 si gana en Abu Dhabi.
Pero no debemos descartar lo que podría hacer Lewis Hamilton, quien tuvo una carrera muy sólida en Interlagos, remontando hasta el segundo lugar luego de un contacto con Max Verstappen al inicio de la carrera. Una victoria de Hamilton y abandono de Russell podría hacerle empatar con el joven piloto británico en puntos.
Carlos Sainz también tiene la posibilidad de sobrepasar a Lewis Hamilton en puntos en esta carrera. Personalmente, pensaba que Sainz podría ser muy competitivo esta temporada y estar allí arriba luchando por el subcampeonato al menos. Pero, lamentablemente, problemas de fiabilidad del auto y mala suerte le han impedido estar a la altura de su compañero Leclerc este año.
Es muy probable que esta sea la primera temporada en la que Hamilton no gane una sola carrera.

Por lo pronto, se avecina una carrera muy interesante en la que varios pilotos tienen algo por lo que luchar, a excepción del que es el más agresivo de todos: Max Verstappen, quien, en cambio, tiene la "obligación moral" de ayudar a su compañero Checo Pérez a ganar el campeonato. Esto último lo debemos poner en duda hasta verlo, porque ya conocemos la mentalidad ganadora del piloto holandés.
Lo más probable es que el subcampeonato se vaya o para Red Bull o para Ferrari, pero nada de esto debe desmeritar lo que ha logrado un joven George Russell esta temporada. Un joven piloto que superó a su compañero de equipo este año: nada más y nada menos que Lewis Hamilton, y que estuvo muy cerca de ser subcampeón, gracias a su gran constancia, algo que Ferrari no tuvo este año y que no ha sido el fuerte de Checo Pérez desde que inició su carrera en Red Bull.
Como ya dijimos, Yas Marina ha sido sede de carreras sorpresivas, a pesar de ser un circuito donde adelantar es difícil. Las modificaciones llevadas a cabo de cara al Gran Premio de 2021 le han dado más posibilidades de espectáculo y adelantamientos. El año pasado tuvimos una carrera que fue muy lineal en algunos puntos y emocionante en otros. Posee caractarísticas un poco similares a las de Bahreín, pista donde al inicio de este año tuvimos una carrera con mucho movimiento y luchas en pista. Personalmente, espero que en Yas Marina pueda reproducirse un poco de lo que vimos en Sakhir.

For the time being, a very interesting race is ahead in which several drivers have something to fight for, with the exception of the most aggressive of all: Max Verstappen, who, instead, has the "moral obligation" to help his teammate Checo Perez to win the championship. The latter we should doubt until we see it, because we already know the Dutch driver's winning mentality.
Most likely the runner-up will go to either Red Bull or Ferrari, but none of this should detract from what a young George Russell has achieved this season. A young driver who overtook his teammate this year: none other than Lewis Hamilton, and who was very close to being runner-up, thanks to his great consistency, something that Ferrari did not have this year and that has not been Checo Perez's forte since he started his career at Red Bull.
As we already said, Yas Marina has been the venue for surprising races, despite being a circuit where overtaking is difficult. The modifications carried out for the 2021 Grand Prix have given it more possibilities for spectacle and overtaking. Last year we had a race that was very linear at some points and exciting at others. It has characteristics a bit similar to Bahrain, a track where at the beginning of this year we had a race with a lot of movement and fights on track. Personally, I hope that Yas Marina can reproduce a bit of what we saw in Sakhir.
