Three months ago in this [post](https://inleo.io/@actioncats/some-attempts-in-the-1990s-jxd?referral=actioncats) i  mentioned some inventions from the 90s that undoubtedly changed a lot of what was around at the time. Some of them are still around today, in improved versions, while others gave way to new creations. So today I want to do a second part, mentioning other inventions from the 90s. Here we go with another #ninetiesfriday

### <center>Text messages (1992)</center>

In another post, I mentioned that the birth of text messages or SMS was something that changed communication. Without a doubt, when a couple of developers sent the first text message in 1992, it gave rise to many ideas that improved the concept and then materialized. It is important to clarify that at that time, mobile phones did not have keyboards, so that first message that said: “Merry Christmas” was written on a PC.

### <center>Nokia 1011 (1994)</center>

Mobile phones originally appeared on the market in the 1980s, but the arrival of the Nokia 1011 in 1994 changed things. first because it was the first cell phone launched by the Finnish company and was the first mass-produced GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) cell phone. This second-generation (2G) technology quickly became the world's standard network, offering fast and secure wireless connections for voice, data, and text messaging.

### <center>GPS (1995)</center>

Undoubtedly a tool that many people use today, the Global Positioning System (GPS) was born in 1990 and was originally known as Navstar GPS. This system, owned by the US federal government, was created by the US Department of Defense, originally for military purposes, and began full operation in 1995.
Currently, the signals transmitted by satellites can be received and used freely by anyone to find their position or the position they wish to locate, at any time and place, with impressive accuracy.

### <center>Tickle Me Elmo (1996)</center>

We have all seen, on different occasions, excerpts from the famous Sesame Street program, an educational program aimed at children with many puppet characters, among them one known as Elmo, a hairy red monster.

Now, in 1996, the toy company Tyco asked to use Dubren's technology to create a doll featuring the Sesame Street character Elmo. This doll became one of the most popular children's toys and was named the most wanted toy of the 1996 Christmas shopping season. 

We're no longer in 1996, but I love this character and definitely want an Elmo doll.

### <center>The Virtual Pet (1996)</center>

I remember seeing more than one person with this device, which came in different colors, and hearing how they had to take care of it, because otherwise their virtual pet would die. To be honest, I never liked it, but the virtual pet is undoubtedly a staple of childhood and adolescence in the 1990s. Launched in 1996, more than 40 million units were sold worldwide.

### <center>Netflix (1997)</center>

Believe it or not, Netflix, the American multinational, was founded in 1997 and began operating in the commercial exhibition sector, offering a DVD rental and purchase service to homes. Later, it offered rentals through a monthly subscription.

But then, in 2007, they had the brilliant idea of creating what we now know as their video platform. Since then, the company has begun to distribute a large number of films and television series, to which it is dedicating an increasing amount of investment. 

An innovator in the subscription video industry, Netflix currently rivals other companies in the film and television industry on a global scale.

### <center>Mensajes de texto (1992)</center>

En otra publicación hice referencia a que el nacimiento de los mensajes de textos o SMS fue algo que cambio la comunicación, sin duda el que un par de desarrolladores enviaran el primer mensaje de texto en 1992, dio origen a muchas ideas que mejoraron el concepto y luego se materializaron, es importante aclarar que para ese momento, los teléfonos móviles no tenían teclados, por lo que ese primer mensaje que decía: "Feliz Navidad"  fue escrito en una PC.

### <center>Nokia 1011 (1994)</center>

Originalmente, los teléfonos móviles aparecieron en el mercado en la década de 1980, pero la llegada del Nokia 1011 en el año 1994 cambió las cosas, primero porque fue el primer celular que lanzó la compañía Finlandesa y fue el primer celular GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) producido en masa, esta tecnología de segunda generación (2G), se convirtió rápidamente en la red estándar del mundo, ofreciendo conexiones inalámbricas rápidas y seguras, para la transmisión de voz, datos y mensajes de texto.

### <center>GPS (1995)</center>

Sin duda una herramienta que muchísimas personas usan hoy en día, el Sistema de Posicionamiento Global (GPS), nació en 1990 y fue originalmente conocido como Navstar GPS, este sistema propiedad del gobierno federal de Estados Unidos, fue creado por el Departamento de Defensa de Estados Unidos, originalmente con fines militares y comenzó a operar plenamente en 1995.
Actualmente, las señales transmitidas por los satélites pueden ser recibidas y utilizadas libremente por cualquiera y así conocer su posición o la que desean ubicar, en cualquier momento y lugar, con una precisión impresionante.

### <center>Hazme cosquillas Elmo (1996)</center>

Todos alguna vez hemos visto, en diferentes oportunidades, fragmentos del famoso programa Plaza Sésamo, un programa educativo dirigido a niños con muchos personajes que son marionetas, entre ellos hay uno conocido como Elmo, un monstruo peludo y rojo.

Ahora bien, en 1996, la compañía de juguetes Tyco, pidió usar la tecnología de Dubren para crear un muñeco con el personaje de Elmo de Plaza Sésamo, este muñeco se  convirtió en uno de los juguetes para niños más populares y fue nombrado el juguete más deseado de la temporada de compras navideñas de 1996. 

Ya no estaremos en el 96, pero yo amo este personaje y sin duda quiero un muñeco de Elmo

### <center>La mascota virtual  (1996)</center>

Recuerdo ver a más de uno con este dispositivo, el cual venía en diversos colores y escuchar como tenían que atenderlo, porque de lo contrario moriría su mascota virtual, la verdad a mí nunca me gusto, pero sin duda la mascota virtual, es un elemento básico de la infancia y adolescencia de los años noventa. Lanzado en 1996, más de 40 millones de unidades se vendieron en todo el mundo.

### <center>Netflix (1997)</center>

Lo crean o no, Netflix, la multinacional estadounidense, fue fundada en 1997 y comenzó operando en el sector de la exhibición comercial, ofreciendo un servicio de alquiler y compra de DVDs a domicilio. Luego, ofreció alquileres por suscripción mensual.

Pero luego, tuvieron la brillante idea de crear lo que hoy conocemos como su plataforma de video en 2007. Desde entonces, la empresa ha comenzado a distribuir un gran número de películas y series de televisión, a las que dedica una inversión cada vez mayor. 

Innovadora en la industria del vídeo por suscripción, Netflix rivaliza, actualmente y de manera global, con otras compañías de la industria cinematográfica y televisiva.
