Recuerdo ese día,  estaban operando a mi madre en teoría para retirar un tumor benigno, también recuerdo la cara de mi abuela, cuando salieron de la sala de operaciones a informarle que el diagnostico preliminar estaba errado y que mi madre tenía cáncer de seno, la cara de mi abuela fue un poema, ella no me dijo nada, pero yo sabía que algo no andaba bien, ese fue el comienzo de un camino largo que recorrió mi madre y nosotros junto a ella quien hoy en día solo tiene un seno, pero está aquí con nosotros, pero lamentablemente no todas la mujeres logran ganar esta batalla.

Con motivo de los estragos que genera el cáncer de mama y en virtud de que hay cualquier cantidad de diagnósticos todos los años, el mes de octubre se declara el mes rosa con el propósito de crear conciencia en todos los seres humanos de la importancia de realizar chequeos anuales ya que la detección temprana es fundamental para salvar vidas.

En el caso de mi madre tal vez tenía ese granito hace tiempo pero no lo sintió o tal vez no le dio mayor importancia, hasta que estuvo más grande y se lo manifestó a mi abuela que al ser enfermera si se alarmo al sentirlo ya que sabía lo que podía implicar, así mi  madre fue al Hospital Oncológico Lusi Razzeti, donde le realizaron esos primeros exámenes en los que como mencione, en teoría solo se trataba de un tumor benigno, pero resultó no serlo, así esa primera operación se convirtió en la extirpación de tumor, con la esperanza de que no reapareciera, pero este tras unos meses reapareció.

Por otra parte, recuerdo que mi madre al conocer el diagnostico nos llamo a todos a la sala y no dijo con una voz firme: -“no quiero ver caras largas aquí, yo tengo un Dios muy grande y sé que él me va a sanar”, así comenzaron pruebas diversas, hospipitalizacion y otros gastos,  así luego de esa primera operación, mi madre debió ser intervenida una segunda vez, con el propósito quitar el seno completo y 13 ganglios;  como mujer cuando supe aquello, no podía imaginarme lo que para ella significaba perder un seno, algo que las mujeres apreciamos tanto, presumo que ella en algún momento lo presumió y me dijo: “-Hija, ¿Qué es un seno contra mi vida?”.

De la misma manera, mi madre afronto cualquier cantidad de sesiones de radioterapia y luego de quimioterapia, las primeras parecían quemar su piel, las segundas afectaron su cabello, ente otras cosas, el cual perdió por completo y en algunas oportunidades llegaba con mucho malestar vomitando hasta el alma, además de que se hincho muchísimo. Pero mi madre nunca perdió la fe, ni se deprimió, siempre la vi alegre y llena de fe y trasmitiendo o intentando animar a otras mujeres que también estaban padeciendo con esta enfermedad.

Como ya mencioné mi madre es una sobreviviente y actualmente esta con nosotros, ya han pasado 20 años o mas de aquella experiencia, en la que gracias a Dios a muchos amigos y vecinos todo se le realizo en ese hospital, muy poco hubo que realizar por fuera.

Ahora bien, es determinante y sumamente importante realizar los exámenes en casa e ir a consulta ginecológica de manera regular, en mi caso al tener un antecedente, las mamografías y ecos mamarios comenzaron antes de tener la edad de 40, muchas veces se que es incomodo y algo doloroso el procedimiento, pero muy necesario para detectar a tiempo cualquier anomalía y atacarla a tiempo, se que nuestra Venezuela es otra y los hospitales e instituciones públicas muchas veces no cuentan con el material o los recursos, pero en la medida de lo posible realiza, al menos,  la experticia en casa , o pide a alguien que te la realicé si tu crees no saber hacerlo, si eres un caballero anima a tu esposa e hijas, también a  tu madre o hermanas,  para que lo hagan esto podría salvar sus vidas.

Due to the ravages of breast cancer and because there are any number of diagnoses every year, the month of October is declared pink month with the purpose of creating awareness in all human beings of the importance of annual checkups since early detection is essential to save lives.

In my mother's case, maybe she had that pimple some time ago but she didn't feel it or maybe she didn't give it much importance, until she was older and told my grandmother who, being a nurse, was alarmed when she felt it because she knew what it could mean, so my mother went to the Lusi Razzeti Oncology Hospital, where she underwent those first examinations in which as I mentioned, in theory it was only a benign tumor, but it turned out not to be, so that first operation became the removal of the tumor, in the hope that it would not reappear, but after a few months it reappeared.

On the other hand, I remember that my mother, upon learning the diagnosis, called us all to the room and said in a firm voice: - "I do not want to see long faces here, I have a very big God and I know that he will heal me", so began diverse tests, hospitalization and other expenses, so after that first operation, my mother had to be operated a second time, with the purpose of removing the whole breast and 13 ganglions; as a woman when I knew that, I could not imagine what it meant for her to lose a breast, something that we women appreciate so much, I presume that she at some point presumed it and told me: "- Daughter, what is a breast against my life? ". 

In the same way, my mother faced any number of radiotherapy sessions and then chemotherapy, the first ones seemed to burn her skin, the second ones affected her hair, among other things, which she lost completely and sometimes she would arrive with a lot of discomfort vomiting up to her soul, besides that she swelled up a lot. But my mother never lost faith, nor did she get depressed, I always saw her cheerful and full of faith and transmitting or trying to encourage other women who were also suffering with this disease.

As I already mentioned, my mother is a survivor and is currently with us, it has been 20 years or more since that experience, in which, thanks to God, everything was done in that hospital for many friends and neighbors, very little had to be done outside.

Now, it is decisive and extremely important to perform the tests at home and go to gynecological consultation on a regular basis, in my case having a history, mammograms and breast echoes began before the age of 40, many times I know that it is uncomfortable and somewhat painful procedure, but very necessary to detect any abnormality in time and attack it in time, I know that our Venezuela is different and the hospitals and public institutions often do not have the material or the resources, but as far as possible, at least performs the expertise at home, or ask someone to perform it if you think you do not know how to do it, if you are a gentleman encourage your wife and daughters, also your mother or sisters, to do it, this could save their lives.
