I think the most BS requirement human resource imposes on job applicants says "Must have pleasing personality". If that requirement was actually followed strictly, I think a lot of people would be unemployed, including top brass. 

So I work in the mental health industry and one the daily grind I do is listening to people's problems and then get paid. It's a crude and unsophisticated way to call my job that but it is what it is. Don't get me wrong, I love my job.  I didn't even knew I had more patience with insane people than sane people. 

Like, I can talk to people who aren't right in the head longer and it wouldn't even bother me the slightest that they're out of touch with reality or have poor insight about their problems. What grinds my gears are sane people that create their own problems but that's another story entirely. 

So we got a complaint from quality assurance. We always do but this one snippet made me chuckle. It says the doctors don't smile and appear grumpy. 

They drive a fair point with this complaint. But that's probably something I would have difficulty working on especially when mental stress from just talking to different people accumulates on the job. If you think you can handle a friend's 1 or 2 trauma dumps, then do that repeatedly for more than 15 times a day to total strangers and each can run 30 to an hour give or take. After the 10th or 15th patient, I just stop smiling or just have a poker face because you can't keep the act up that you're tired while just sitting and writing prescriptions. 

I sometimes just feel sorry for the succeeding patients because my empathy receptors get saturated up from the previous ones that tell a different version of their sab sobby story or how their life decisions led them to consequences they can't cope and they can't connect the cause and effect of it all. I mean, I do try my best to sustain the motivation because beyond the pay, it's a little more fulfilling to see people thanking you when their loved ones starts to stop hurting themselves, stop being out of touch with reality, and just not be hostile towards them cause you had something to do with it. 

Anyway, back to the whole pleasing personality as a requirement. That's probably the requirement where most people are underqualified especially in customer service where it's needed the most. Because form the customer's point of view, you're the only person they interacted with at that given venue while on you point of view, you've seen plenty of them with similar concerns and the grind is getting to you.

I'm writing this post because I feel like procrastinating my due grand case presentation happening next month. It's one of those events where I present an interesting case and there would be a lot of doctors trying to take a jab at my mistakes for constructive criticism. Just celebrating because I'm half way done.
