If you tie the success of your hobbies with monetary gains, then it’s less of a hobby and more along the lines of work. The hobby aspect lets you do something at your leisure without being concerned about trying to put food on the table. Some may refer to their work as a hobby because they already love what they do and it pays. 

This isn’t an anime review post but My Dress-Up Darling has opened up some avenues to self-reflect what I really want to do with my time on Hive. I blog what I like and this is still a hobby because I am not burdened into thinking someone else may not upvote my post and making my effort go to waste. 

A short background [My Dress-Up Darling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Dress-Up_Darling) plot: 

> Guy who fancies making bisque dolls becomes socially awkward growing up for his hobbies until he meets popular girl who appreciates what he does and drags him into what she’s also passionate about which just happens to be dressing up (cosplay).

It’s a crude way to deliver the plot but that’s the shortest way to explain what the show is about. It’s actually wholesome and probably one of the best ongoing anime right now. It just makes me appreciate what I do right now. 

I have a demanding job that’s soul crushing. I’m relatively comfortable physically doing it because it pays well but there’s just some parts of the work that gets me burned fast to the point that occasionally quitting for a low paying job isn’t such a bad route. Anyway, if it wasn’t for that job, I wouldn’t be blogging on Hive because now I got a productive outlet that’s keeping me from being a total workaholic.

I started using my alt account @artofadamada again to build outside the platform like I keep on procrastinating. 

Prior to blogging on the blockchain, I did some blogging on Facebook when its UI and algorithm for content discovery favored long form content. Facebook back then was different and I’d get some views and response for my blogs (not art related). I dropped the habit after the changes in the UI and algorithm and there was a gap in years before I started again on the blockchain picking up some art materials. 

Now my silly blog turned out without any clear direction on what I really want to be. But I like what I do, and there’s always been that itch draw and start making silly illustrations out of frustration. I wanted to be a freelance digital illustrator but couldn’t because social pressures and job security reasons. This doesn’t mean I lost my passion. 

I thought about sharing what I do here on Hive with my own social network but then just as what the protagonist on My Dress-Up Darling suffers from, talking about crypto, art, and hobby blogging isn’t exactly a popular topic especially with my colleagues who just aren’t into all of those mentioned. Maybe it’s a cultural barrier to understand this but from where I’m from, unless there’s a real paycheck waiting for doing hobby art, doesn’t involve crypto, and being charismatic enough on social media to gain traction, my time doing it isn’t worth jack shit.

That’s how bad my immediate support system is and it gets smaller as the years go by realizing no one can save me from the impending doom of the abyss. We’re all going to drop dead and time isn’t ticking any slower so make the most of what you got left kind of deal. While it’s a pipe dream thinking to start now and eventually be as good as [WLOP](https://www.deviantart.com/wlop) or [Sakimichan](https://www.deviantart.com/sakimichan), I’ll still pursue doing it at my pace.
