Banks and traditional payment service providers like PayPal charge users an arm and a leg in fees and its been a pet peeve for many consumers. Bitcoin has made payment transfers far cheaper than these services ever could since they rely on these fees to run their businesses, however, Bitcoin is by no means the cheapest cryptocurrency to use, especially when it comes to microtransactions. As the price of the coin continues to rise and the network adoption becomes larger the price of a transaction with the previous all-time high seeing transaction costs of as [high as $55](https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-transactionfees.html). ## Less cost, more speed Since then the poor chain's reputation has been tainted and people see it as a pricy option when compared to other chains. In a bit to improve the speed and affordability of the Bitcoin network, several projects have been put into play such as [Segwit](https://steempeak.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-why-segwit-is-a-big-deal-for-bitcoin) and the lightning network. SegWit has been around for some time now and has recently been improved with a new version known as Bech32. **Image source:** - [ledger.com](https://www.ledger.com/academy/difference-between-segwit-and-native-segwit) ## Bech32 also known as Native SegWit Native SegWit is an update in Bitcoin address format and makes it even more weight-efficient than its predecessor. This results in faster transaction speed versus SegWit transactions, better scalability and even lower fees per transaction. It's reported that SegWit Bech 32 addresses reduce the size and cost of a Bitcoin transaction by up to 30%. Bech32 also has better error-detection and makes addresses lowercase only for better readability. ## SegWit still a well-kept secret The Bech32 address may offer several advantages however, adoption of these addresses are still minor. While transactions between Legacy, SegWit and Native SegWit addresses are fully compatible, You might not have heard of these addresses since many exchanges and wallet providers don’t support the new SegWit addresses. If you want to try out a SegWit Bech32 compatible wallet you can grab a Ledger and sue Ledger Live which support both Native SegWit and a SegWit address. Did you know about Native SegWit? Will you be using BTC more often knowing that you can transfer it far cheaper? ## Previous ADSactly Crypto posts * [ADSactly Crypto: What Are Coin Mixers? ](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-are-coin-mixers) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Does Wash Trading Mean In Cryptocurrency?](https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-does-wash-trading-mean-in-cryptocurrency) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is A Spot Exchange & A Leveraged Exchange?](https://steemit.com/trading/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-a-spot-exchange-and-a-leveraged-exchange) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is A Central Bank Digital Currency ](https://steemit.com/banking/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-a-central-bank-digital-currency) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is A Block Reward? ](https://steemit.com/blockchain/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-a-block-reward) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is Coin Burning?](https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-coin-burning) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is Liquidity In Cryptocurrency?](https://steemit.com/trading/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-liquidity-in-cryptocurrency) * [ADSactly Crypto: Why SegWit Is a Big Deal For Bitcoin](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-why-segwit-is-a-big-deal-for-bitcoin) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is The Bitcoin Liquid Network?](https://steempeak.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-the-bitcoin-liquid-network) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is Ethereum Sharding All About?](https://steemit.com/blockchain/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-ethereum-sharing-all-about) * [ADSactly Crypto: Why Is the Bitcoin Hashing Rate Important?](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-why-is-the-bitcoin-hashing-rate-important) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is Blockchain Interoperability?](https://steemit.com/blockchain/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-blockchain-interoperability) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Are Bitcoin Forks?](https://steempeak.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-are-bitcoin-forks) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Are Bitcoin Transfer Accelerators? ](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-are-bitcoin-transfer-accelerators) * [ADSactly Crypto: Fungibility And Confidential Transactions](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-fungibility-and-confidential-transactions) * [ADSactly Crypto: A Break Down Of Bitcoin Value](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-a-break-down-of-bitcoin-value) * [ADSactly Crypto: How Many Bitcoin's Have Already Been Lost Forever?](https://steemit.com/blockchain/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-how-many-bitcoin-s-have-already-been-lost-forever) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is the Bitcoin Halving?](https://steemit.com/crypto/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-the-bitcoin-halving) * [ADSactly Crypto: What Is A Bitcoin Paper Wallet](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-what-is-a-bitcoin-paper-wallet) * [ADSactly Crypto: The Importance of Private Keys](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-the-importance-of-private-keys) * [ADSactly Crypto: How Bitcoin Futures Could Affect The Future Of Bitcoin](https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@adsactly/adsactly-crypto-how-bitcoin-futures-could-affect-the-future-of-bitcoin) --- --- #
Click the coin below to join our Discord Server

[)](https://discord.gg/pcDQShW)
--- #
Thank You

As always, I was unaware of this information! It is interesting that the costs of some transactions are lowered and there is no doubt that customers will prefer this option. Although with finances the best thing is the security and reliability of some sites and not the cost. Greetings

For sure you would rather pay more and know it’s secure! I think that off chain payments do have its own challenges and because theirs not good user interfaces yet the average person should stick to the basics for now! As it evolves and gets better we’ll see more wallets adding compatibly and you as the user won’t know the difference

I never knew SegWit stood for "Segregated Witness" (or something like that) before but it makes sense once it's explained. I hadn't heard of Bech32 though, seems like it could make BTC a bit more promising seeing as no-one on the ("Average Joe" scale) will want to pay $55 to move their money around. Interesting to see how that develops

The way I see it is with the coin increasing in price over the next few halvings joe six pack is not going to want to fork over that much but the miners also need cash and that’s why we will probably be using second layers Day to day will be lightning Institutions and investors will be in liquid And if you want once off transactions like taking it offline you use the bech More options is never a bad thing
