There is a power of darkness that operates in every person born into this world. It is not learned or cultivated by environment; rather, it is inherited — passed down from the first man, Adam. This inherited nature is what the Bible calls the Adamic nature: a corrupt, sinful seed that cannot please God and is contrary to His divine nature.

The Nature of Sin and Death
This Adamic nature is deeply ingrained. It is not just about bad behavior — it is a condition of the soul. It is the nature of sin and death, which came as a result of Adam’s transgression in the Garden of Eden. According to Romans 5:14, "Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses..." — this death is not just physical, but spiritual, manifesting as separation from God.

The Adamic nature is:

Carnal

Rebellious

Self-seeking

Naturally aligned with the systems and patterns of the world

It has the capacity to steal, lie, cheat, covet, hate, fornicate, blaspheme, and kill — without ever being taught. It does not need training to sin; it does so naturally.

Observing the Nature in Children
Have you ever observed a child as young as two years old lie or steal? Often, these actions occur without any form of teaching or external influence. This confirms a painful truth: sin is not just taught — it is inherited. Even children raised in morally upright or disciplined environments display tendencies toward unrighteousness.

This is the evidence of the sin nature at work, subtly expressing itself until the child reaches the age of accountability — when conscience, moral responsibility, and the awareness of right and wrong become clear.

The Reign of Death and the Need for Redemption
From Adam to Moses, death reigned. It wasn’t just about mortality — it was the rule of sin, the power of darkness that dominates every human life until it is broken. This spiritual darkness is the reason humanity constantly wrestles with evil, even when we desire to do good (Romans 7:19).

But here is the good news: Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of darkness (1 John 3:8). His death and resurrection offer a new nature — a divine nature that sets us free from the curse of Adam.

A Call to Transformation
To overcome the Adamic nature, one must:

Acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ

Receive the new birth (John 3:3)

Begin the intentional development of your human spirit through the Word of God and the help of the Holy Spirit

Until this happens, the power of darkness remains at work in the soul — no matter how educated, wealthy, or morally upright a person may appear.

Final Thoughts
The battle between light and darkness begins at birth. But victory is only found in Christ. The Adamic nature may be inherited, but it doesn’t have to reign. Through Christ, we are given a new heart, a new mind, and a new spirit.
