Having trekked all the way to the Arctic tundra, and not fallen off of the flat Earth, though I digress, the soapbox has been set up and now ready for use. A discourse, of this nature, demands a befitting environmental milieu. To this, the question echoes through the harsh and howling winds, along with the obligatory sub-zero temperatures.

A burst of oratory has frightened an aurora of polar bears, therefore, a soliloquy cascades off the platform. World-class sarcasm is delivered with a lilt, instead of the sledgehammer approach. Being able to raise one eyebrow adds effect. A wry smile is preferable to a sneer.

While there is the irony of fricasseeing a skunk instead of roasting it; the dish still tastes like chicken: the other white meat. I have pondered Frank Marugg getting a parking ticket, years ago, while handing out flyers for a free learn-to-read course. “I don’t understand, officer if you don’t want me to park here, why are you preventing me from moving my vehicle?”

Groping a goose on its butt often goes over folks’ head. Therefore, the master of sarcasm must use his/her wit sparingly, as the precious commodity that it is. My favorite targets are megalomaniacs. Oh, to have been the hotel clerk when Inspector Clouseau demanded a rheum. After being threatened, he handed over a key and blew the dust off. Offering pompous ones a title beyond their station and playing it out in a servile tone can qualify for Touché of the Year Award.
