Office workers, employees, staffs, hear me. If you are thinking that someone is peeking on what kinds of files and websites you visit on your company issued computer here's a way to erase those activity on your computer.

 

#### Windows Timeline

 

For Windows 10 users, are you familiar with "Timeline" feature of Windows 10? You should be, because Timeline has the ability to record all the files that you opened and the websites that you visit.

 

How to access Timeline? Just press "Windows key + Tab" on your keyboard and the Timeline windows will open.

 

At the Timeline interface you will see all the recent files that you opened and websites that you visit right from the beginning when Timeline is installed on your computer by way of a Windows update.

 

You can erase all the entries by right-clicking any of the tile then chose "close or erase".

 

<blockquote>Erasing all the website that you visit on Timeline does not erase it from the history of your browsers.</blockquote>

 

Most importantly you need to prevent Timeline in remembering your activity by disabling it in the "Activity History". Activity History can be found on Settings.

 

#### Browsers

 

Aside from Timeline, browsers have the capability to record or save all the websites that you visit in the internet.

 

Browsers such as Firefox, Chrome or Edge can be set not to remember or save your browsing history.

 

Additionally, you can use "Incognito" mode on Chrome and "Private Window" on Firefox if you are unable to turn-off history.

 

<blockquote>Bear in mind that Incognito on Chrome and Private Window of Firefox do not hide your browsing activity from your internet service provider, or to the websites you visit.

Basically, Incognito and Private Window just means that your browser do not remember or save cookies, temporary internet files or your browsing history.</blockquote>

 

You need to disable their feature in remembering history on their settings.

 

#### Windows Search (Cortana)

 

Searching any app on Cortana will also give you the lists of files that you recently opened using the app.

 

Say, for example, if you search for an app such as Excel it will also show you a list of the recently opened files the you previously opened in Excel.

 

If you want any app not to remember those recent files that you opened you need to disable "Show recently opened files" in Settings.

 

Additionally, disabling "Show recently opened files" will also disable or remove the recently opened files shortcut on "Quick access" window.

 

But, disabling "Show recently opened files" will not erase or remove the list of recently opened files on each app on your computer.

 

#### Apps

 

Right-clicking any pinned app on your Taskbar will also give you a list of the most recently opened files for that app.

 

To disable and remove them disable "Show recently opened files" on Settings.

 

Apps such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint have a built-in feature for remembering recently opened files.

Disabling "Show recently opened files" on Settings will not prevent them in remembering the files that you opened.

 

You need to disable that feature on the "Display" settings on Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

 

Most windows app does have their own feature of remembering recently opened files you just have to disable them.

 

For Windows, you just have to disable "Show recently opened files"

 

#### Feeling confused now? Let me summarize what you need to do

 

Disable your browsers in remembering history, additionally, you may want to clear your browser history before or after disabling history.

 

Prevent Windows (Cortana, Quick access, pinned apps in Taskbar) in remembering or showing recently opened files by disabling "Show recently opened files" on Settings.

 

Disable Timeline on "Activity history". Activity history can be found on Settings.

 

You need to disable the feature of any apps that you use in remembering recently opened files (like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, VLC, Paint, etc.)
