There is currently a @splinterlands pre-proposal (linked below) that is aiming to resolve the issue of any unclaimed SPS from the airdrop by sending it to the DAO if it is not claimed by July 26th, 2023 - one year after the airdrop finished. It is currently passing with over 90% support so I know I am in the minority voting against it, but I would like to present my perspective and an alternative solution.

At some point, players came into the game and either bought assets or engaged in activities that earned them SPS through the airdrop. Whether they left the game, are taking an extended break, or maybe even unfortunately lost their keys or passed away - I don't believe we should be taking away the SPS they are ultimately entitled to. It goes against the decentralized ethos of what I love about crypto and specifically Splinterlands. 

Instead, I would counter-propose to auto-claim for all accounts that have pending SPS and just send it to their in-game wallet. What they choose to do with it beyond that is up to them, but at least it resolves the issue of the airdrop for good. If there are technical barriers to this I can understand, but if we can remove the SPS from their pending accounts I have to believe there is a way we can auto-claim on their behalf as well.

Aside from the principle of it, I actually think this will be beneficial for the SPS token for several additional reasons. First, when the bull market comes back around some of these players who have left may re-engage with the game and return to find many new additions including Land and Soulkeep. This may push them to stay and continue engaging with the project as opposed to getting upset that their pending SPS was taken away from them. Second, if they do not return then we can consider the SPS burned (technically lost) but it reduces the overall supply which is exactly what we want in the long run.

Of course, this SPS would not go to the DAO but the DAO is already well funded and there are many other opportunities to get it SPS. The 30M tokens remaining from the airdrop are significant, but I would rather let them stay in the accounts they were intended and either be used to re-engage old players or be lost/burned.
