Sleep: An Adventure in Digital Art

I've started blogging on my agmoore2 account again.  It has been more than a year since my last post on this account.   I hope to experiment and explore here.  The results may be less than stellar, but will offer the opportunity to challenge my skill set.

Today I present the first post on my resurrected blog.

 The animated picture was derived from a digital painting I created maybe five years ago.  The painting, though crudely executed, reflected a memory from childhood.

I was ill and in bed. I could see the kitchen from where I lay.  The wall behind me was blue and covered by white imprints of a foam sponge.  I had painted the wall myself, with my sisters.  We had fun splattering white paint randomly.

There was a hot plate on a scratched wooden table, and a cat (actually yellow) nursing kittens in a box.  As I dreamed in fevered sleep, the house came alive. 

I used a newsprint filter on *GIMP* on the original picture, and made layers using *Paint 3D*.  The GIF was created with *GIMP*.

hey agmoore...2. I like the idea of giving your more experimental part of your soul an own cyber identity.  Looks cool. Out of curiosity: how long can you trace your memories back? I have some early pieces where I am not even sure if they are real memories.

Thank you my friend. I look for freedom in the guise of another personality. It may be a sign of pathology :) but I actually do feel more brave in my secondary character.

Your point about memory is spot on.  What do I remember?  What has been reinforced by siblings over the years?  Have I seen photos that alter the impression? Yes to all of the above.  I think, if something is particularly dramatic, or distinct from what followed, it is easier to separate.

In my case, we moved when I was seven and again when I was eleven.  In each case there were dramatic circumstances surrounding the moves so it's easy (rather, given the imperfection of memory) to associate a memory with a time.  This memory was in my second house, so I know for certain I was older than seven and younger than eleven.

Edit:  To answer your question, how early?

I know by using my method that I recall preschool very well.  I had a brother who fell ill when he was nine. 4 1/2 years older than I am.  I have clear memories of traipsing through the forest with him. So I guess that takes me back, reliably, to the age of four.

yes, Im fine :). Thank you! This is the answer I was looking for. Still the closest we come to time traveling. I have the impression that creative people often have much earlier memories and more vivid memories.
