Acto de San Sebastián

En el post de hoy os quiero mostrar algunas imágenes de una de las celebraciones más importantes de la ciudad donde resido en la actualidad, Algemesí (València). Se trata de la festividad de San Sebastián de la Vila, que coincide en la fecha en la que hace siglos la villa de Algemesí se independizó de Alzira, que es la capital de la comarca de la Ribera Alta, de la que dependía inicialmente Algemesí.

Es por ello una fecha crucial en la vida política y social de nuestro municipio, con un antes y después de la fecha. La independencia significa autogobierno de acuerdo con las necesidades reales de la gentes, las asociaciones y todo el tejido productivo y social del pueblo.

Desde ese momento no hubieron imposiciones de ningún tipo, y Algemesí ha ido creciendo a todos los niveles, con convirtiéndose hoy en día en un referente cultural y tradicional, con la declaración de Patrimonio cultural inmaterial de la humanidad por parte de la UNESCO de sus fiestas patronales en honor a la virgen de la salud. Estas fiestas se celebran cada 7 y 8 de septiembre, y merece la pena verlas al menos una vez en la vida en vivo y en directo.

Para la celebración del acto de San Sebastián de Vila han participado, además de las autoridades y representantes del consistorio, la banda de música, la escuela de instrumentos tradicionales, la Muixeranga con sus torres humanas y la asociación napoleónica, que siempre da mucho color.
En este día tan señalado además también se hace entrega del galardón de honor del municipio. Es una buena manera de conocer más a fondo la historia del municipio.
