"Are you happy?"
You are surprised. You have stopped. You are thinking. Are you? And then you check. There are moments when you were happy. Not many of them. Yet, you always felt you were generally happy. But then a doubt has hit the mind. Is it true? Were you generally happy? Or you always ended up in an argument to prove to others why and how you were happier than them. And the arguments often took away all the lighthearted feeling.
I learned to tackle this question.
"Are you happy?"
"Yes, in this moment I am.."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that I am."
"What makes you happy in this moment?'
"Meeting you. Should I be unhappy meeting you? Why would you want that?"
Well, we may be happy in future, or we were happy in the past. What matters is this - Are we passing the present moment in a happy state of mind."
And answer may not be yes always as life is weaved with moments of joy , happiness, sadness, hurt etc. Each emotion keeps on appearing. We can only do one thing: Enhance the longevity of happier and joyous moments which are going to fade any way and reduce the duration of moments filled with negative emotions..
Obviously if the happier moments are more, you can claim to be a happy person. Why not?
