"All those sales people care about is money"
That is one of the worst statements I hear sales leaders make.
Human nature says that we are motivated by so many other things than financial gain.
Are there sharks as some sales people out there? Yes of course there are.
The vast majority however, are folks that enjoy solving problems for people in one way or another.
They too enjoy mastery and not everyone is always competitive to just beat someone else.
They are also competing with their inner self.
The intrinsic motivation of mastery is the best form of motivation in any sales person.
So stop assuming that every time you want to move a sales team you have to dangle a financial carrot in front of them.
Let them run, identify where they are excelling, make them feel like they are getting closer to mastery in their form of competition (internal or external) and then keep hitting that dopamine button and watch that team fly and you just get out of the way.
This is how any old dog can learn a new trick!
