The Pandemic and School Reopening; (My take on opening school in countries with cases of COVID-19)
A lot of people have been dying because of this pandemic and the infection case is on the rise, increasing in a form that most people fear their safety. In countries like the United State, the government plan to reopen schools to make sure that learning continues. Just like my country, summer is often a time when most schools go on a very long break to resume at fall for a new academic session. Most parents and students often look up to this time and parent do their best to get all the necessities that their children will be needing to start a new academic session, but I doubt 2020 is the same.

The government of several countries are planning to open schools while so many others do not have the plan to open at all till this virus, I completely taken care off. Around the world, this is the point were there is a rise in new cases of coronavirus as well as a rise in death. Several countries have placed bans on high risk coronavirus countries so they can be able to curtail their case. It is true that the economy of the world will be in shamble if there are no economic activities like production, shipping, and retailing.

A lot of people are cut between two point, stay home and starve with no money to pay bills or go to work and contract the virus and it is no doubt that a lot of people have been resumed work since so many countries already allowed that their economy be opened back so they can generate revenue. After this resumption, a lot of people have died, so many people have contracted the virus and remain at a critical point fighting for their lives while others are just waiting to face the same experience. In states like Arizona in the United State, a lot of death have been on the rise and so some states are planning to shut down and so many are still opened.

Around the world, I have heard a lot of government leaders say that schools should reopen, and this is where I get worried. My question is “is it possible to make students in all level of education keep to the COVID-19 regulations?” The regulations include wearing a face mask, keeping 6 ft distance (social distancing), Washing Hand frequently, using a hand sanitizer, and cleaning surfaces properly. Then I ask this question, “if adult at their office who follow these guidelines still contract Covid-19, then what will happen to children who do not see it as a big deal?” Schools are often opened withing the period of 7 to 9 hours and children are expected to have a minimum of 1-hour break in between when they play and catch up with gist. Do you think a 5-year-old child can keep to these guidelines of social distancing, wearing a nose mask, and washing hands continuously for 9 hours when they aren’t properly supervised?

Are we going to risk the lives of millions of students and teachers because we want to open schools and the economy? Well, if countries with less coronavirus infections are yet to open, then there should be no reason for countries with high cases at all. Simply work with tele-edu and let us see how that can help at this point. Online teachings, lectures and classes can be a saving grace in this period until there is a vaccine for this virus.
