The other day, I installed a shelf on the wall and finally completed the long-overdue workspace improvement. Last autumn, due to a rental contract issue, I had to give up my office. I moved the long vintage sofa from the office into my home—only to discover it was 10 cm too long and didn’t fit properly 😢 As a last resort, I rotated the shelf with the foldable desk attached to it to make it work somehow. But doing so meant I had to awkwardly climb over the armrest of the sofa and squeeze between the wall and the shelf just to sit at the desk. Not only was it discouraging me from working, but the whole setup looked cluttered—and every time it showed up in photos, I couldn't help but sigh.  This is what it looked like on the rare occasions I actually managed to squeeze in and work. Once I got in, it was hard to get out—and staying there too long wasn’t great for my body and health either...  The space between the sofa and the wall was less than 75 cm, which made it really hard to find a desk. But then I found inspiration during a trip in April to Munich at an interior store called [Magazin](https://www.magazin.com/magazin-muenchen-c198313). A French brand called Tiptoe makes stylish desk legs—and that’s when it hit me: I could attach legs to avoid hitting the sofa, and create a perfect desk! Each Tiptoe leg cost nearly €80 😱 IKEA had similar legs for much cheaper, but they looked less stylish, and I didn’t like that they required screwing. So I decided to splurge, thinking, “I’ll work and earn it back 💪” I used Tiptoe's wall-mounted holders on the wall side to save some cost. When the desktop board arrived, it was cracked. The shop refunded me in full, and I considered buying a new one. But I figured I could reinforce it with a metal plate on the back, and so I repaired it myself.  Compared to similar products, Tiptoe legs are way more stylish. Functionally, they also let you attach the legs where you want and as screwing is not needed, they don’t damage the board. They were pricey, but definitely a worthy investment. Even I want another pair to make an extension workspace in the future 😉  The workspace was complete, but the white wall still looked a bit barren. I’d long wanted to hang some artwork here. Also, I thought a shelf would be nice—especially to give my camera a permanent spot, since it never really had one. Up until now, my approach to interiors had been totally improvised, but ChatGPT turned out to be incredibly helpful. I gathered images of art and shelves I liked, and worked with ChatGPT to visualize the final look.  The tomato artwork was something I casually created with ChatGPT, then enhanced the resolution and printed through a large-format print service at a drugstore. I put it in a frame from IKEA. It might be fun to change the artwork seasonally. The shelf was from a local wooden furniture shop—just the right style for my vision. I installed them both on the wall, and voilà! It took longer than I expected, but now that the workspace is set up. I’m really happy about it. Somehow, I feel more motivated to work too. I’m so glad I tackled the improvements at my own pace without pushing too hard. Oh, and by the way—ChatGPT is great company for projects like this. Visualizing the finished setup together made everything feel more concrete and made the work go so much smoother! --- 先日、壁に棚を取り付けて、ワークスペース改善作業が一通り終わりました。 昨年の秋に賃貸契約のトラブルがあってオフィスを解約して、オフィスで使っていた長めのヴィンテージソファを自宅に入れたら10cm長くて上手く入らない・・・・・・・😢 苦肉の策で、折りたたみ机のついた棚の向きを変えてなんとかしていたのですが、こうすると、ソファの肘掛けを乗り越えて壁と棚の間にすべりこんで机に向かわなければならず、仕事をサボりがちに。さらに見た目も乱雑で、特に写真に写るたびに「あちゃー」と思っていました。  たまにようやく入って作業するとこんな感じ。一度入ると出にくく、動かなくなり、体にもよくありません 😢  ソファと壁の間に入る幅70cm台前半がなく、どうしたものかと長らく頭を悩ませていました。ヒントは4月に旅行で訪れた[ミュンヘンのMagazin](https://www.magazin.com/magazin-muenchen-c198313)というインテリアショップにありました。Tiptoeというフランスのブランドがスタイリッシュな机の足を作っていて、これを使って、ソファの肘掛けをよけて板に足をつければぴったりの机を作れるではないか！と。 Tiptoeの机の足は1本80ユーロ近くして、13600円・・・・・・・😱 IKEAの同じような机の足は安価ではあるのですが、なんとなくもっさりしているのと、ネジで止めないといけないのが嫌で、仕事して稼げばいいやと奮発しました。壁側は壁に取り付けるタイプのホルダーにして節約。 机の板が届いたと思ったら割れていて、お店が全額返金してくれたので、新しいのを買い直そうかとも思ったのですが、裏から金属板を当てたら直りそうだったので、直しました。  Tiptoeの足は類似商品と比べて断然スタイリッシュで、機能面でも出っ張っている部分をよけて、好きな位置に足をつけられて、さらに板に傷がつかないのがとても良いです。高かったけど、投資してよかったです。  机ができて作業スペースが完成したのはいいのですが、白い壁がなんだか殺風景です。ここには長い間絵を飾りたいと考えていて、あと、棚があると、固定の置き場所のなかったカメラも置けていいなと棚をつけたいと思いました。インテリアをどう組み合わせるかはこれまで行き当たりばったりだったのですが、ChatGPTがかなり優秀で、私は好きな感じの絵や棚の画像を集めてきて、ChatGPTと完成イメージを作りました。  トマトの絵は、私がChatGPTと適当に作って、解像度を上げて、ドラッグストアの大判印刷サービスで印刷したものをIKEAで買った額に入れて作りました。季節ごとに絵を入れ替えても楽しいかもしれません。棚は、近所の木製家具のお店にイメージに合うものがあったので買ってきました。これらを壁に取り付けてできあがり。  明るい時間の写真がなぜかみつからず、動画をInstagramにあげたので、よかったらこちらもどうぞ☺️ https://www.instagram.com/p/DM2S6RXtz0t/ オフィスを出て10ヶ月、改善の糸口が見えて3ヶ月、思った以上に時間がかかりましたが、ワークスペースが整ってうれしいです。不思議とモチベーションも上がって、無理せず満足のいくように少しずつ改善に取り組んで本当によかったなと思います。 そうそう、こういうプロジェクトのお供にChatGPTおすすめですよ。完成像を一緒に作っておくと、イメージを固めやすく、作業をとても進めやすかったですよ！

It's a old sofa but I fell in love with its friendly out look and bought second hand when I started renting the office. I enjoyed remodeling my workplace step by step and now it comes to small storage room to host a 3D printer 😉

At looks really stylish, minimalist and functional. Perfect. However, I'd still need a little more desk space to scatter bits of paper around to use as scribbled notes and a huge pillow to rest against as I know I'd spend most of the time horizontally on the sofa with my laptop actually living up to its name!
