After I had dinner with my daughter, I was making bean necklaces next my daughter doing drawing. I have some pictures of bean necklaces from the time when I was in Kyoto Japan, so it means I have been prototyping and thinking about it for more than 10 years.

I was wondering why I have been obsessed with this idea for so long. I cannot describe it clearly, but maybe because I am interested in beans both as food and as a beautiful object. 

I make a little decorative bean necklaces to exhibit, and for actual use, I make simple necklaces with one or two beans. Last year, I could make a necklace using beans I grew by myself in my balcony 🙌

I like to give a bean necklace to people working in the food field, artists, and children. I am very happy to see their reactions especially young children. They are so happy to have their own jewelry, which is not plasticky toy-ish accessory. I myself like to wear bean necklaces too.

In a Japanese book I read three years ago, there is a line that says "work is to share the excitement to others." That's right. And I would like to do that kind of work. We shall earn money by sharing my excitement, interest, joy etc.

None of the bean necklaces were sold at the market the day before Christmas, but I am not discouraged and will try to put them on my market stand again tomorrow. I wonder how it will turn out.

In 2023, like bean necklaces, I try to make what I want, share them and make a business out of them.

今日は子供と二人で夕飯を食べて、そのあと子供が絵を描いている横で一緒に豆のネックレスを作っていました。豆のネックレスは京都にいた時の写真があるので、もう10年以上、思い立ってはもやもや作って考えてを繰り返しているようです。

なんでそんなに長いこと豆のネックレスにこだわっているのでしょう。自分でもよくわからないのですが、多分私は豆をとても好きで、あと、このネックレスをとても気に入っているのです。展示用には少しデコラティブなものを作って、実際使うものとしてはシンプルな豆ひとつまたは大小二つみたいなネックレスを作っています。去年は念願かなっ自分で育てた豆を使ったネックレスを作れました。

豆のネックレスは食分野で働く人やアーティスト、子供たちにあげると喜んでもらえます。今までに何人にプレゼントしただろう、7人くらいかな。うれしいです。自分自身とても気に入って使っています。

松浦弥太郎さんの『世界を「仕事場」にするための40の基本』という本に、「仕事は感動を分かち合うこと」という一説があります。これ、本当にそうだと思うし、そういう仕事をしていきたいです。自分のほしいもの、好きなものを作って分かち合ってお金をもらう感じです。

毎日は描けていないものの、絵もそうかもしれません。自分の部屋に飾りたい絵を自給自足できたらいいですよね。他にも気に入ってくれる人がいたらお商売になるはずです。

豆のネックレスは、クリスマス前日のマーケットでは一つも売れなかったのですが、めげずに明日またマーケットのスタンドに置いてみようと思います。はてはてどうなることでしょう。

自分の欲しいものを作って共有して、できればお商売にもしていきたい2023年です。
