As I noticed my knives weren't sharp enough, I started sharpening them on my whetstone.

I bought the stone just after I arrived in Germany eight years ago. I know there are other convenient tools but I like this method because my grandpa did it with a stone. He sharpened my grandma's and my mother's knives. He might did my aunt's too. I clearly remember how he sharpen knives in garden under a tap. It is a good old memory.

包丁の切れ味が悪くなっているなあとこの数日もやっとしていたので、午後砥石で包丁を研ぎ始めました。

砥石は8年前、ドイツに来てすぐ買ったものです。包丁研ぐには砥石以外にも便利な道具があるのは知っていますが、私はめんどうくさい砥石が大好きです。というのも祖父が祖母や母の包丁もおじいちゃんが研いでくれていたかたです。多分叔母の分も研いでいたと思います。庭で水道の蛇口の下で包丁を研いでいた光景をはっきり覚えています。懐かしい思い出です。

淡々と黙々と包丁を研いでいい瞑想の時間になりました。上の写真か写真下のリンクをクリックすると、Instagramで見ることができます。つまらない動画ですが手元を撮るのをやってみたかったのです 😅

そんなこんなで私は残りの人生でもこの砥石で包丁を研ぎ続けるんだろうな。いいじゃない！
