In the area of Germany where I live, according to the weather forecast, today is the last warm day of the year. Having almost finished preparing the balcony for winter in the afternoon, I'll write this season's final weekly update.

Firstly, apart from tomatoes that still bear fruit and which the kids wanted to keep, I thanked and removed the spring-summer plants. Thank you for spending these past few months with us.

After that, I planted bulbs like tulips, irises, and allium deep in the planters for next spring. Then I found that irises I planted a bit early the other day have already sprouted 😱 I wish they'll be okay ...

On top of where the bulbs were planted, I've sowed cold-resistant plants such as lambs lettuce, purslane, broccoli, and Russian lettuce. Lambs lettuce and purslane are my best staple plants for fall and winter for the last years. They require almost no watering in the autumn and winter, and there's no pest damage, so I highly recommend planting them.

I just spread the seeds and cover them lightly with soil. Their sprout will appear when I forget I sowed the seeds.

Leafy greens might seem difficult to grow, but they're surprisingly manageable. When planted on the balcony, you can easily prepare a balcony salad, which is very handy.

While I was happily sowing seeds and drinking wine, I remembered a vegetable store owner in Kyoto, who once told me cheerfully, "Today is a full moon; it's a good day to sow seeds." Although mechanization, efficiency, and mass production are important for some occasions, I love this kind of joyful, analog farming. I miss buying vegetables grown by him and his friends.

For plants I will take in house, I spread fine artificial stones on the soil. I expect this prevents small bugs from emerging. Fingers crossed!

バルコニーガーデンのアップデートが少し遅れてしまいました。

ドイツの私が住んでいるエリアは、天気予報を見てみると、今日が今年最後の暖かい日で、午後バルコニーの冬支度をほぼ終えたので、今シーズン最後の定期アップデートを書きます。

まずは、まだ実をつけていて子供が残しておきたいというトマトを除いて、春夏の植物にお礼を言ってどいてもらいました。この数ヶ月を一緒に過ごしてくれてありがとう。

そのあとプランターの深くに来年の春用にチューリップやあやめ、アリウムなど、球根を埋めていきました・・・・・・・・・先日ちょっとはやめに植えたあやめは芽が出てる 😭 これは大丈夫なのだろうか。大丈夫であって欲しいです。

球根を植えた上には、ノヂシャやスベリヒユ、ブロッコリー、ロシアのレタスなど、耐寒性のある植物を植えました。ノヂシャとスベリヒユは数年来の秋冬の鉄板で、サラダにしたり、納豆丼のおともにしたり。秋冬は水やりの手間がほぼなく、害虫の被害もないのでとりあえずまいておくのおすすめです。

こんな感じでもうふりかけのように種をまきます。薄めに土をかけておくと、忘れた頃に芽が出てきます。

葉物というと難しそうですが、意外と育てられるもので、バルコニーに植えてあるとこんな感じで、バルコニーサラダを作れて便利です。

先週と今週は子供の秋休みで、HiveBeeConにも行く予定だったので、スケジュールには余裕があり、後半戦はワイン片手でバルコニーに出ていました。

いい気分で種まきをしていると、京都時代に足繁く通っていた八百屋のおっちゃんが「今日は満月で種まくねーん」と楽しそうに言っていたのを思い出しました。機械化、効率化、大量生産も大事ではあるかもしれませんが、こういう楽しそうなアナログ農がよくて、八百屋のおっちゃんやそのお友達が育てた野菜を買っていたのが懐かしいです。

家の中に取り込むイチヂクやレモンの鉢の土の上には、人口の細かい石をしいてみました。これで小さな虫が出ないといいのですが、うまくいきますように。
