**<div class="text-justify">Hello everyone, today I bring to you my opinion about a movie I watched a few months ago and fascinates me for its aesthetics, the complexity of its plot and characters, I'm talking about Dune.</div>**

# <center>Plot Summary</center>

**<div class="text-justify">In a distant future and galaxy the Atreides house is sent by imperial order to rule the desert planet Arrakis, however this is not to the liking of the Harkonnen house, since they have been inhabiting the planet for more than 80 years. It turns out that Arrakis has a very coveted element known as Spice, which allows space travel, however its use is not only limited to being a kind of fuel, as it also provides superhuman powers. Because of this, a deadly conflict will develop in this fascinating yet dangerous place.</div>**

# <center>Analysis</center>

**<div class="text-justify">Dune as an audiovisual proposal is something impressive, I think it has one of the best integrations of digital visual effects with practical elements that I have seen. Every space, every room, every world presented to us is simply the tip of the iceberg to evoke a rich story, where you feel like you are immersed in another place in the universe. From my point of view Arrakis not only evokes something aesthetically magnificent, as it also represents energy, danger and invites to adventure and discovery. It is worth mentioning that all this visual repertoire is accompanied by impressive sound effects and a truly remarkable soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.</div>**

**<div class="text-justify">Likewise, the film also has a side leaning a bit towards horror, being at times tremendously monstrous and atmospheric, going down to brutal and dark paths, which does not let us predict what is really going to happen. It also has a Shakespearean touch but it does not remain just on that. All that esoteric cloak gives it a totally different identity. Thanks to the attractive presentation of a fairly mechanized retro futuristic world where some analog and other more advanced things coexist.</div>**

**<div class="text-justify">As a viewer one can notice that at all moments it maintains a connection to what has happened in our world in the past and today. With the theme of the Spice we can make the connection with the empires that have been passing through, maintaining control over places for different political or strategic reasons, it really feels like something timeless, very relevant and close to our reality. In the same way it can notice the intention to give a message from an ecological point of view, portraying how certain civilizations have been oppressing, subjugating and devastating others of lesser power, by ravaging natural resources for merely petty interests.</div>**

**<div class="text-justify">It also presents to us a handful of characters, with whom we can connect and be transported on a tremendously complex journey. I also think the film overcomes the challenges of being based on a decades-old novel that influenced so many of the stories we know and never feels like something we've seen before. It's not just another story where the Caucasian savior comes to explore another civilization, in another part of the world or another world that ends up actively saving the day.</div>** 

**<div class="text-justify">I should also mention that everything surrounding the Bene Gesserit order and the supposed prophecy that haunts Paul for his messianic qualities is very fascinating, the scene with the caretaker of the palm trees in Arrakis reflects the importance of the prophecies, the belief and the power that the religious symbol has for the status quo to be maintained, although it can also be interpreted from another point of view a little more positive, as the message of hope that is given to a population.</div>**

**<div class="text-justify">This first part of Dune prioritizes that you get to know and fall in love with its characters, before spending all its resources to offer you the visual spectacle of your life, the nature of the story is epic in nature, its construction is a little more introspective and seeks to examine the interior of our protagonists to give them a solid motivation that detonates completely in a second part. Anyway the film also has some action sequences, melee fights and prosecutions in spaceships, the scenes that have to do with the sandworms are really magnificent.</div>**

**<div class="text-justify">Something I would also like to highlight is the theme of the dreams, the power they have and their interpretation for the future, the film completely appropriates the use of visions, but the interesting thing about this is to see how they are translated into that world by stripping them from a literal sense, they are rather a representation of what is to come and are full of symbolism. It is worth noting that Baron Vladimir Harkonnen is an impressive representation of that, he really manages to be repulsive and terrifying without saying or doing too much, making it very clear that members of House Harkonnen can be very dastardly and ruthless.</div>**

# <center>Overall</center>

**<div class="text-justify">Even though I have not read the book, I was definitely fascinated by the mythology of Dune in terms of its aesthetics, its style proposal, its political and social reading. I found the performances of the actors mostly outstanding (especially Timothée Chalamet as Paul and Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica). It is simply an audiovisual and narrative spectacle that I enjoyed very much and fortunately, laid the groundwork for a sequel that is already in production, which I'm looking forward with great excitement.</div>**

**<div class="text-justify">Saludos a todos, el día de hoy les traigo mi opinión de una película que vi hace varios meses, la cual me fascino por su estética, la complejidad de su trama y personajes, me refiero a Dune.</div>**

# <center>Resumen de la trama</center>

**<div class="text-justify">En un futuro y galaxia distantes la casa Atreides es enviada por orden imperial a gobernar al desértico planeta Arrakis, no obstante esto no es del agrado de la casa Harkonnen, ya que ellos han estado habitando ese planeta por más de 80 años. Resulta que Arrakis posee un elemento muy codiciado conocido como la Especia, la cual permite la realización de viajes espaciales, pero su uso no solo se limita a ser una especie de combustible, sino que también dota de poderes sobrehumanos. Debido a esto se desarrollara un mortífero conflicto en este fascinante y a la vez peligroso lugar.</div>**

# <center>Análisis</center>

**<div class="text-justify">Dune como propuesta audiovisual es algo impresionante, pienso que posee una de las mejores integraciones de efectos visuales a nivel digital con elementos prácticos que haya visto. Cada espacio, cada recinto, cada mundo que se nos presenta es simplemente la punta del iceber para evocar una rica historia, donde uno se siente que está sumergido en otro lugar del universo. Arrakis bajo mi punto de vista no solamente evoca algo estéticamente magnífico, ya que también representa energía, peligro e invita a la aventura y el descubrimiento. Cabe mencionar que todo este repertorio visual está acompañado de efectos de sonidos imponentes y una banda sonora a cargo de Hans Zimmer realmente impresionante.**

**Asimismo la película también tiene un lado inclinado un poco hacia el horror, siendo en ocasiones muy monstruosa y atmosférica, yéndose por un camino brutal y oscuro, que no nos deja predecir que es lo que realmente va a suceder, además tiene un toque Shakesperiano pero no se queda solo en eso. Todo ese manto esotérico le otorga una seña de identidad totalmente diferente. Gracias a la atrayente presentación de un mundo retro futurista bastante mecanizado donde coexisten algunas cosas análogas y otras más avanzadas.**

**Como espectador se puede notar que en todo momento mantiene una conexión con lo que ha sucedido en nuestro mundo en el pasado y en la actualidad. Con el tema de la Especia uno puede hacer la conexión con los imperios que han estado de paso, manteniendo el control sobre lugares por diferentes motivos políticos o estratégicos, realmente se siente como algo atemporal muy relevante y cercano a nuestro realidad. Del mismo modo se nota la intención de dar un mensaje a nivel ecológico, retratando cómo ciertas civilizaciones han estado oprimiendo, subyugando y devastando a otras de menor poderío, al arrasar con sus recursos naturales por intereses mezquinos.**

**Del mismo modo nos presenta a un puñado de personajes, con los cuales podemos conectar y ser transportados en un viaje tremendamente complejo. También pienso que la película supera los desafíos de ser algo basado en una novela de hace tantas décadas, que ha influenciado a tantas historias que conocemos y que en ningún momento se sienta como algo que ya se haya visto hasta la saciedad. No es una historia más donde el salvador caucásico, llega a explorar a otra civilización en otra parte del mundo o en otro mundo y termina activamente salvando el día.**

**También debo mencionar que todo lo que rodea a la orden Bene Gesserit y la supuesta profecía que persigue a Paul por sus cualidades mesiánicas es muy fascinante, la escena con el cuidador de las palmeras en Arrakis refleja la importancia de las profecías, la creencia y el poder que tiene el símbolo religioso para que se mantenga el status quo, aunque también se puede interpretar desde otro punto de vista un poco más positivo, como el mensaje de esperanza que se le da a un pueblo.**

**Esta primera parte de Dune da prioridad a que conozcas y te enamores de sus personajes, antes de gastar todos sus recursos para ofrecerte el espectáculo visual de tu vida, la naturaleza de la historia es de carácter épico, su construcción es un poco más introspectiva y busca examinar el interior de nuestros protagonistas para darles una motivación solida que detone por completo en una segunda parte, de cualquier manera no es una película ajena a las secuencias de acción, peleas cuerpo a cuerpo y prosecuciones en naves espaciales, las escenas que tienen que ver con los gusanos de arena son realmente magnificas.**

**Algo que también me gustaría destacar es el tema de los sueños, el poder que tienen estos y su interpretación para el futuro, la cinta se apropia por completo del uso de las visiones, pero lo interesante de esto es ver cómo se traducen en ese mundo al despojarse de un sentido literal, son más bien una representación de lo que está por venir y están llenas de simbolismos. Cabe destacar que el barón Vladimir Harkonnen es una representación impresionante de eso mismo, realmente logra ser repulsivo y aterrador sin decir o hacer demasiado, dejando muy en claro que los miembros de la casa Harkonnen pueden llegar a ser muy ruin y despiadados.**

# <center>Conclusión</center>

**A pesar de que no he leído el libro, definitivamente me fascino la mitología de Dune en lo que tiene que ver con su estética, su propuesta en estilo, su lectura política y social, las interpretaciones de los actores me parecieron en su mayoría sobresalientes (especialmente Timothée Chalamet como Paul y Rebecca Ferguson como Lady Jessica). Es simplemente un espectáculo audiovisual y narrativo que disfrute mucho, además afortunadamente sentó las bases para una secuela que ya está en producción, la cual espero con mucha emoción.</div>**
