Recently, my body decided to take a slight decline its ability to fight off illness. I took it upon myself to create a medicine which will allow my body to continue the good fight. The medicine that I made was an elderberry syrup.  Elderberry is a very potent preventative and curative medicine. One of the most potent effects of this medicine is from the compound globulin, which effectively coats cells with itself to prevent viruses and other microbes from penetrating the cell and allowing them to reproduce. There are many other factors that go into the strength of this incredible medicine, but I’m not going to cover much of that. 

I unfortunately did not take videos or photographs of the first initial extract to make the syrup, but it’s quite simple. To make the syrup one simply has to use fresh or dried berries and cover them with water and boil it until half of the amount of water initially added has evaporated. At this point, you allow your syrup to cool down in order to add honey to the mixture. You want the syrup to be cool enough so that the microbes with in the honey do not become sterilized.

 When the extract is done macerating in the water, the average herbalist will toss away the herb that was strained from the extract, either composting or figuring out some other way to use the herb - but the trash seems to be one common method. 

As an alchemist, I do my best not to waste anything. Alchemy is not about destroying anything rather about changing its state or its form in order to raise it to its highest and purest divinity. One of these processes is called calcination, which is a process of burning down the dried herb to receive the mineral salts, known by alchemists to be the philosophical Salt.
