Who here has seen The Marshmallow test?

The experiment is part of a study in delayed gratification conducted by Columbia professor Walter Mischel in 1972.

how did it work?

Children were presented with a choice. They could have one marshmallow now, or they could wait a few minutes until the researcher came back and have two marshmallows.

The kids' internal battle is hilarious

And here are some words by professor Mischel himself:

What's interesting about the study is that when researchers followed up with some of the test subjects, they found that the children that were willing to wait for the increased reward, also performed better in school and had better health, wealth and happiness.

Pretty cool, right?

In today's day and age, we're presented with so many choices: we can stream a movie in 0.5 seconds. We can also order sticky rice & mango from our favorite thai restaurant from the comfort of our bed. We can buy a snazzy smart watch and have it delivered to our doorstep in 24 hours.

or...

We could invest our time, energy and money in other things that might be less enjoyable now, but will give us much larger reward down the line.

I wouldn't consider myself a discipline ninja by any means, but I do work at it every single day. One of the things I do on the HIVE blockchain is every day, is power up a very small amount; 1 HIVE. I started doing this a few weeks ago and set myself a goal to do it every day for a week so I could get a 45 degree line on my account growth chart on [hivestats.io](https://hivestats.io)

I called it *the 45 degree challenge*.

As you can see, I achieved that small goal, so I moved the goal post a bit further. I tried for a month.

This time around, I realized that powering up 1 HIVE per day qualifies for the #HPUM (Hive Power Up Month) badge on [hivebuzz.me](https://hivebuzz.me). So I was stoked to get my first HPUM badge for March. Unfortunately, I wasn't careful enough with the time of my power ups and must have powered up on the same day twice according to HIVE's clock which is UTC, so I didn't get the badge.

I'm trying again for April, but this time, I've scheduled some time every morning to do it

As you can see, I'm still in the race and 1/3 of the way there :)

And I'm doing these little daily challenges because I believe that in 2030, my investment in time, energy and fiat in this blockchain will have tremendous compounded rewards.

I'm still working out what my goal is for 2030, but it's more or less growing my HIVE Power + HBD in savings to somewhere between $100K and $500K in US Dollar terms.

I will make a post about it when I figure it out.

In the meantime, I'll keep improving myself and my business.
