Letting go is key, because if we don't, our traumas eat up on us, and eventually they become so deeply buried within ourselves that we might even forget where certain patterns and feelings stem from. 

Mental Silence is imperative in the process of letting go, for within it thrives the Acceptance which allows us to stop letting the past pain having a say in our present moment of limitless possibilities. Practising so is helpful to release thought patterns because they are linked to the memory of unhealed energy. We usually recprocess traumatic events in the dream state but most feel rather "haunted" by these dreams, which often entails that people have these dreams their whole life because feeling "haunted" is a state of suppression where energy gets stuck in us. You could say we want to escape, remain blind or simply unconscious.

By practising mental Silence on a regular basis, we will gradually release the thoughts' energetic essence in the dream state, The physical release of dissonant energy is palpable. We'll literally feel how our body releases density and becomes gradually lighter, which in turn leads to more Awareness in the dream state. Our dreams won't any longer be overtaxed with daily worries and traumatic experiences but instead subconscious energetics and our Universal dreams come forth into our Awareness.

Having said that, applying the principal of "Time heals all wounds" entails the suppression of feelings, because by doing so we rely on a thought-made illusion to liberate us from our agony. But resorting to an illusory healing tool inherently means that our healing won't be real. 

Only Love is real. Only Love can heal.
