Ancient sword found in a bog.
I wouldn't normally post a  story that was based around a link but I found this story so amazing.
Chinese archaeologists found a sword from a period known in China as the time of the Warring States. Now I admit to knowing nothing of this history but one thing I do now know is this.

They knew how to make a sword.
Now  the sword was made sometime between 475 BC and 221BC yet when it was drawn from it's scabbard...

Now for steel ( I'm presuming the sword is steel.) to survive so well usually needs a very dry enviroment such as deserts yet this was found in a bog. I suppose we always forget about how little oxygen is around in the fetid waters of a bog to allow oxygention of the metal.
Anyway just marvel at the blade of the sword as it is drawn.

If you look at the Roman soldiers swords of about the same time you wil find they were short as well. size would depend on fighting styles.
