How do you make a decision when you have too many good options? At this point, most people would try to choose "the best" option, but until you clarify what "best" means or "best for what" -you are nowhere near solving it. And so you're getting deeper into the weeds because you no longer have just one decision to make -you now have two. On one side, you have to choose the best option, on the other have to select the best criteria for making that decision. Let's say you're asking yourself, what would be the best career for me? -Should I become an engineer? -Maybe a teacher? -Why not a driver? And so on. But to pick the best career, you have to go one layer deeper and make a more fundamental decision first. -What matters most? -What do I want out of life? -What do I care about? Decisions are like that; it's decision, inside decision, inside decision -and it goes on forever. Let's now say you have identified a few options in random order: money, fulfillment, happiness, family life, free time, meaning, personal growth, and relationships. Did we miss anything? You're now going to rank these factors such that the one at the top will be the most important, and the one at the bottom will be the least.
