Tax Filing for the Year 2022

July is the month for tax filing in India and the 31st July is the last date to finalize the task. Income tax filing is an important task and as a responsible citizen, everyone should do it if there is tax liability. In India tax period is from 1st of April to 31st March and for this financial year filing has to be done by 31st July in the same unless this date is extended by the tax department. The tax department has been extending this date for the last 2 years because of covid but seems this year its not likely to happen and even now the department has started sending SMS reminders and emails to file the taxes on time. Its a tedious task and most people try to get it done by some expert or take assistance throuhg tax filing agencies.

I have been doing my tax filing without any assistance because I keep an eye on the updates and any changes announced by the govt during the budget. Companies also starts sharing form 16 for salaried individuals and I have mine last week. Form 16 is the mandatory requirement for salaried people and this is provided by the organization. Though I have got my form and its been almost a week but have not got the time to look into it however I am planning to close it by next weekend. This is one of the activities which I don't want to do in a hurry because its important to do correct filing to avoid any issues and being a part of crypto I have been through a tough time in 2018.

We have tax rules in India now but all these would be applicable for next year's filing and for this year crypto income would be considered normal other income and slab will be applicable as per the earlier rules. I prefer to do tax filing through govt portal and not by a third party and glad to say that the portal is pretty much faster and easy to use as well. I want to go throuhg all tax updates if any before I start filing so that I follow all the institutions and this is very much needed. Hopefully, I should be able to finish it without any assistance but let's see if this happens but anyhow I would prefer not to drag it further because waiting for the last day is not a good idea.

When it comes to govt things, I always prefer to do it well in advance to avoid last-minute hassles and I know that there are a lot of people who like doing it at the last minute but I will avoid this. Today is the 10th of July and I aim to complete it by 17th July next week and during this time I will go through form 16 and any other income documents that I need to report. I have gone through the news article that some crypto investors have got the notice by the tax dept as exchanges have provided the user information to the government and this means they know about the transactions happening throuhg India crypto exchnages.

I would like to know how you manage your tax liabilities and do you take assistance for the filling or do you do it by yourself? Is it an easy task for you or you are a bit scared when its time for tax sub submission and you just try to get rid of it as soon as possible?

In Taiwan, tax returns have been completely electronic. Although some people still use paper tax returns, normally, it is not a big problem to complete electronic tax returns within 10 minutes.
