The price of Steem has been falling for about a week, from a high of 0.006251 BTC to 0.003799 BTC today.

As you can see from the image, some big sales tanked the price by eating all the buy orders (you can see it in the volume spikes in grey) .  This is not smart. The key to selling and not moving the price is to sell in small amounts continuously. 

There are two strategies you can employ: 

* Instead of selling in one go and eating all the buy orders on the way down, sell small amounts, no more than 10 Steem at a time, and watch the exchange. As the new buy orders get placed, gently sell into them. This approach requires patience and it can take a couple of days of closely watching to ease your sells into the market without tanking the price.

* The second approach is to place a bunch of sell orders at various prices and let buyers come to you. This way you benefit from any pumps and can get a much higher price than is being offered now. But this approach requires even more patience than the first method detailed above. It can take as much as a couple of weeks for all your sell orders to execute - but you will benefit in that you will have gotten a great price.

Unfortunately most people arn't patient. They want to sell all at once, not even checking if there are sufficient buy orders to absorb their sells, which is why they end up eating dozens or orders on the way down. This is counter-productive, because Steem is designed to allow SteemPower to be powered down at just 1/104 a week. If everyone tank-sells, the downward momentum builds up, which means that next week when you sell the amount you've powered down you get much less - and all you've done is hurt yourself.

Tl;dr *Ease* your sells in the market. Patience and control are virtues.
