## <center>Regreso al Halo (parte 13)</center>

La alerta se corrió de inmediato, todo contacto con Eurídice, la única colonia humana, en otra galaxia, se había perdido, dos acorazados, junto a trece fragatas, fueron movilizadas desde la estación Barnard01, la estación de monitoreo del puente a la Galaxia de Barnard y principal instalación militar humana de la galaxia. 

A su llegada, la flota recibió señales de auxilio dispersas, provenientes de cuatro de las ciudades del planeta; todas ellas informando de algún tipo de ataque y pidiendo ayuda inmediata.

Naves de reconocimiento fueron enviadas a cada una de las ciudades y todas ellas reportaron lo mismo, algún tipo de explosivo había sido detonado, teniendo como centro mismo de la explosión, el lugar donde se encontraban las Torres de Radiofaro, el punto de comunicación de cada una de las urbes, con la Vía Láctea.

―¿Qué pudo hacer eso? ―preguntó Ismael Sorensen, presidente del parlamento, mientras observaba las imágenes que eran enviadas por las naves de reconocimiento desde Eurídice. 

―No lo tenemos claro ―dijo De Sousa ―. No hay evidencia de naves entrando a las proximidades del planeta, ni de vehículos atmosféricos y terrestres que se hayan logrado aproximar a las torres, al momento del evento.

―Fue un artefacto táctico de antimateria ―dijo Oliver, ignorando a De Sousa.

―Como sabe eso, sin ningún tipo de evidencia ―dijo De Sousa ofuscado.

―Ahí están sus evidencias ―respondió Oliver señalando las fotografías ―. Cualquiera con un uniforme y más de mil años, se lo podrá confirmar. Esas cosas fueron descontinuadas por el tratado 8932 de Polaris ―explicó ―. Creo que usted señor presidente es uno de los firmantes.

―Sí, se a que se refiere ―dijo Sorensen ―. Ese tipo de dispositivo no podía ser detectado por los sensores orbitales o terrestres y podían ser ocultados en una simple mochila, su radio de explosión superaba a muchos de los torpedos tácticos de las fragatas militares. Eran todo un riesgo para la seguridad de las ciudades ubicadas en sitios conflictivos como Euterpe y Aracne. 

―Correcto, sólo una de esas pudo esquivar los sensores ―continuó Oliver ―. Pero no pudo ser introducida por vía aérea, los oficiales de las puertas de acceso las pudieron haberlas notado con los escáneres de rayos X. Debieron llegar a las ciudades por vía terrestre.

―¿Pero no los hubiesen detectado en los puertos de entrada?, además no hay registro de entrada de vehículos a varias de las ciudades en meses ―dijo De Sousa.

―A menos que quienes las trasportaba las hubiesen introducido caminando ―dijo Oliver ―. Deberían revisar si hay registro de naves sospechosas en las proximidades de las ciudades.

En la estación Barnard01, fueron analizados los reportes de las sondas orbitales y las estaciones de monitoreo de Eurídice. Se identificó una nave que, cuatro días antes, había descendido en medio del desierto interior del continente en una región equidistante de las ciudades, situadas todas en las costas de las periferias del continente, y levantado vuelo casi inmediatamente después.

―¿Pudieron identificar la nave? ―dijo la Almirante Berenice Cho, oficial al mando del componente militar de la estación.

―Sí almirante, es una nave de transporte de carga, de tipo Cignus, identificamos su radiofaro y estamos rastreando su ubicación en este momento ―dijo el oficial de comunicaciones.

―Señora … ―intervino repentinamente la alféreza que controlaba los sistemas de monitoreo del puente ―. La nave rastreada, acaba de ingresar al puente. 

Tras estas palabras una honda de gravedad sacudió la estación, activando todas las alarmas. A veinte mil kilómetros de su ubicación, el puente que conectaba la galaxia Barnard, con la Vía Láctea, había colapsado sobre sí mismo en un estallido de gravedad.

## <center>Return to the Halo (part 13)</center>

The alert went out immediately, all contact with Eurydice, the only human colony, in another galaxy, had been lost, two battleships, along with thirteen frigates, were mobilized from Barnard01 station, the bridge monitoring station to Barnard's Galaxy and the main human military installation in the galaxy. 

Upon arrival, the fleet received scattered distress signals from four of the planet's cities; all reporting some sort of attack and requesting immediate assistance.

Reconnaissance ships were sent to each of the cities and all of them reported the same thing, some kind of explosive had been detonated, having as the center of the explosion, the place where the Radio Beacon Towers were located, the communication point of each of the cities, with the Milky Way.

-What could have done that? -asked Ismael Sorensen, president of the parliament, while observing the images that were sent by the reconnaissance ships from Eurydice. 

-It's not clear to us, - said De Sousa -. There is no evidence of ships entering the vicinity of the planet, nor of atmospheric and terrestrial vehicles that managed to approach the towers at the time of the event.

-It was a tactical antimatter device, -said Oliver, ignoring De Sousa.

-How do you know that, without any evidence, - said De Sousa, obfuscated.

-There's your evidence, - replied Oliver, pointing to the photographs -. Anyone with a uniform and more than a thousand years old can confirm it. Those things were discontinued by Polaris treaty 8932, -he explained-. I believe you, Mr. President, are one of the signatories.

-Yes, I know what you mean, - said Sorensen-. That type of device could not be detected by orbital or terrestrial sensors and could be concealed in a simple backpack, its blast radius exceeded many of the tactical torpedoes of military frigates. They were a security risk for cities located in hot spots such as Euterpe and Arachne. 

-Right, only one of those was able to evade the sensors, - Oliver continued -. But it couldn't have been brought in by air, the officers at the gates could have noticed them with the X-ray scanners. They must have reached the cities by land.

-But they would not have been detected at the ports of entry, and there is no record of vehicles entering several of the cities in months, - said De Sousa.

-Unless the people transporting them would have walked them in, -said Oliver-. They should check if there are records of suspicious ships in the vicinity of the cities.

At Barnard01 station, reports from orbital probes and Eurydice monitoring stations were analyzed. A craft was identified which, four days earlier, had landed in the middle of the interior desert of the continent in a region equidistant from the cities, all located on the coasts of the peripheries of the continent, and took off almost immediately afterwards.

-Were you able to identify the ship? -Said Admiral Berenice Cho, commanding officer of the station's military component.

-Yes Admiral, it is a cargo transport ship, Cignus type, we identified its radio beacon and we are tracking its location right now, -said the communications officer.

-Sir ... -suddenly intervened the ensign who was controlling the bridge monitoring systems -. The tracked ship has just entered the bridge. 

After these words a gravity slingshot shook the station, activating all the alarms. Twenty thousand kilometers from their location, the bridge connecting the Barnard galaxy with the Milky Way had collapsed on itself in a gravity burst.
