While some of you are trying to force empathy from everyone, I want you to understand these:

In most developed countries with strict child protection laws, if/when a child dies in a home accident, the parents and any adult caregiver are questioned, interrogated, and investigated.

If it is found that there is anything they should have done to prevent the accident and the death of their child, they will face punishments or at least cautions. At that point, it wouldn’t matter whether they are already mourning their dead child.

Punishments can come in form of these:
1. Being deemed incapable of looking after underage children, therefore taking away other underage children of the couple.
2. Cautions.
3. Jail
And some other forms of punishments.

Sorry, I CANNOT NOT ask questions. And if asking questions to figure out where it all went wrong in order to prevent future reoccurrences amounts to blaming, then so be it!!!

I personally wouldn’t have a pool without a fence, if I have any child below the age of six, or any non-swimming child below the age of ten.

In many developed countries, when a woman gets pregnant, her home is inspected by a representative of a government agency. The reason for this inspection is to make sure the home is conducive and above all SAFE for a baby and toddler. They check if there are child proofs for risk areas. For instance, steep stairways should ideally have childproof gates to prevent the child from falling down the stairs and sustaining serious or fatal injuries. Pools must have child proof gates too to prevent drowning.

“We can’t be safe enough” is NOT an excuse to leave a one year old child unwatched around the swimming pool. In some countries, the adult(s) with such child, whether father or mother or childminder will go to JAIL!

In some jurisdictions, and in some extreme cases of child deaths due to domestic accidents, some prosecutors can even argue that such amounts to involuntary manslaughter against the parents or caregiver.

Child neglect is a thing. Negligence is a thing.
Neglect and negligence even towards ones own child can amount to crimes punishable by law.

When a child dies from an accident, the adult(s) under whose care the child was when the accident happened MUST.... and I mean MUST demonstrate that they took every safety precaution within their power, and which an ordinary “reasonable person” would have taken. And if they can’t prove/demonstrate this, they get to at least get some blames, and in some cases, actually get punished by law.
