Good News! A Van Found Me! I Guess Sometimes You Can Try To Hard.

Hello Everyone! it has been a while since I have posted. I was, as you can tell from some of my recent posts, pretty discouraged about finding a vehicle. I have some good news! I have found one or should I say a vehicle found me.

I was driving through town and this van was sitting at a local mechanics shop. I went in to ask him about it and he gave me a big song and dance about it, as he was trying to get back ahold of the owner after he told her all the things it needed. I may be wrong about this but all the things he said were wrong with it did not fit too well in my mind, as he wanted to buy it from her but could not reach her by the phone numbers he had.

This Is a small town and I did a little investigating on my own and found out who and where the person lived that owned the van. I went to talk to her and got the story of the van. From what she told me I was pretty sure it needed a new gas tank and a new fuel pump and some TLC as you can see from the pictures.

Yes, it also needs two new rims, as you can see. Her son needed the rims and tires for one of his projects so he put the other wheels on it. It ran and all of a sudden it just quit running and died on the road. I went through and looked at it and as I said above I only see that it needs a fuel pump, the reason it needs a fuel tank is her son drilled holes in the tank to drain it so he could use the gas left in the van tank.

It has been sitting for a year and like I said it needs so TLC. I paid what it was worth if I sold it for scrap. So I guess you could say I can make it back by scrapping this van if it does not work out. The motor and transmission are worth over double what I paid for it. So really no loss if it does not work as planned.

This is a 2003 Chevy 1500 Express RV G10 van. It has all the ground effects on it, well almost all of them. I will take the rest off because it sits so low to the ground with them on. Camping with this van in some places might tear them off and might ruin some of the body if I do not do so.

I am working on it as we speak and I will post some more pictures as I go along and will also be posting some videos on 3speak also, about the work I do on this van to get it ready to camp. I have lots of ideas in my head and I think it will work out just great! I am hoping in a couple of weeks or so I will be ready to hit the road, fingers crossed! Good luck with the van @ambiguity. I had a Chrysler Town and Country, it was way more space than I needed, and got horrible gas mileage, but still it was mine and paid for.
Just about the time my SS Disability came through, the transmission died (it MIGHT have just been a faulty sensor) so I bought the Kia Soul I currently drive, and after a year of that van sitting, with no real plans nor recourse, I practically GAVE it to a mechanic.

Thanks! I like trying to bring back a vehicle from the dead and make it of use. I guess it comes from not having the money to buy a new vehicle, fix them and if it gets too much, look around and find another gem in the rough to make work.

I had a cousin @ambiguity, who swore this was true;
A guy, knew a guy who told this story. Go and buy a used car, for around $300.
If it's small, if it will crank, if it doesn't smoke and will pull; work on it.
Then, after driving it for 'X' amount of time, (of course investing in normal maintenance fluids, ) you find yourself on the side of the road with a smoking, stalled auto.
Get out, leave the keys and the title, walk away when your ride appears to pick you up.


My daddy was a master mechanic/welder and while I turned to music, that mechanic's mind set has always stuck with me @ambuiguity, I wish you well and safe travels in your new/old ride
