# **<center>Aprendiendo a decir NO</center>**

Confieso que durante años fui el abonado al "sí" fácil. Mi diccionario personal parecía tener esa única palabra para todo y para todos. ¿Resultado? Mi tiempo y conocimiento eran como barra libre en fiesta de gorrones, ¡y yo el anfitrión agotado! Pero un buen día, ¡eureka!, algo hizo clic. Y vaya si cambió para bien, me quité un zoológico de sanguijuelas de encima, ¡qué liberación!

Es que entendí a la perfección el dicho: “a él dale una pulgada”…, ¡y te pide la autopista entera con peaje pagado! Porque, seamos honestos, cuando una necesita un cable, parece que todos los teléfonos están fuera de servicio o en reunión intergaláctica. Pero ¡ay de ti si no puedes echarles una mano! Montan un drama digno de telenovela turca, con ofensa incluida. Y si, en un acto de bondad infinita, les tiendes un dedo, ¡se agarran el brazo, el hombro y hasta la dignidad si te descuidas!

Ahora dosifico mi ayuda como si fuera el último trozo de mi pastel favorito. Aprender a decir “NO” no solo fue sanador, sino que me devolvió mi espacio, mi energía y, sobre todo, me enseñó a valorar lo que ofrezco. Y sí, quizás ahora algunos me miren raro, pero ¡qué bien se siente tener el control del brazo completo!

# **<center>Learning to say NO</center>**

I confess that for years I was a subscriber to the easy ‘yes’. My personal dictionary seemed to have that one word for everything and everyone. The result? My time and knowledge were like an open bar at a freeloader's party, and I was the exhausted host! But one fine day, eureka, something clicked. And boy, did it change for the better. I got a zoo of leeches off my back, what a liberation!

I understood perfectly the saying: ‘give him an inch’... and he asks for the whole motorway with toll paid! Because, let's be honest, when you need a cable, it seems that all the phones are out of order or in an intergalactic meeting. But woe betide you if you can't give them a hand! They make a drama worthy of a Turkish soap opera, offence included. And if, in an act of infinite kindness, you reach out a finger, they'll grab your arm, your shoulder and even your dignity if you're careless.

I now dose my help as if it were the last piece of my favourite cake. Learning to say ‘NO’ was not only healing, it gave me back my space, my energy and, above all, taught me to value what I offer. And yes, some may look at me funny now, but how good it feels to be in control of my whole arm!
