It seems that one of the highest things one can find in a person is his ability to change his mind.
In spite of the relatively poor situation in which the human race is in itself, the situation would seem much worse without this quality, which few people enjoy.
Why is it so rare to find people who can change their minds relatively easily?
The answer lies in the ability to look cleanly and neutrally at new situations, opinions, data, and knowledge, to examine them with the proper seriousness and to adopt them under prior knowledge that is out of date or found to be unsuitable or more true without feeling threatened.
The reason for this lies in an interesting phenomenon in which people find it difficult to separate their opinion from themselves.
It's an epidemic.
Man becomes his opinion, and as such, any threat to his mind is immediately interpreted as a threat to himself.
This is, of course, total nonsense, since man has an opinion. He does not think of himself, and therefore should not have any difficult problem to give up, change, change, invent and adopt alternative opinions as he pleases.
But alas. Great confusion.
People are no longer able to separate them from their views, and this is where the discussion ends.
There is no more discussion, there is only defiant argumentation in which each side struggles with a real fight for the justice of this thing which he holds as crazy, sometimes without even understanding anything, with the fingernails drawn to the drop of his last blood such that his life and the lives of his children depend on this piece of knowledge.
In fact, this is the reality.
The fear of not being, drove him crazy.
It is the slippery slope at the bottom of which lies the desert of the soul, a slope whose walls are a mixture and a growing confusion in which everything is equal to everything and no one is able to distinguish between anything and blindness and ignorance so much that he becomes an absolute idiot.
Terrible.
