Beloved,


Have you ever thought about this bible passage? Matthew 18:1-4

> About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" 
2 Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. 
3 Then he said, "I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.
4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Christ chooses the little children to teach us a lesson. The question is, what are the attributes of a child that we should be emulating? What can we learn from them and why it is necessary to behave like them to enter the kingdom of God. What does it mean? This means, we have to adopt those attributes that makes them "children" Let's look at some of those attributes;


# 1 Humility:

Children will always put others first. They don't place themselves above others. They are always ready to seek for help whenever they need it and are not afraid to ask for it. Children are always willing to accept the fact that they lack knowledge of a particular thing and are always ready to learn. This does not mean they are weak, it means they have a pure heart.


Humility is one of the attributes that is required to enter into the kingdom of God. God frowns at those who are full of pride, anyone with pride will definitely find it difficult to walk with God and have a personal relationship with Him. Children are "poor" in spirit. This means only those who accept Jesus as Lord and Master will inherit God's kingdom and have eternal life. Acknowledging your sin and the fact that you cannot do it on your own is humility.

Christ lived a humble life while on earth. He humbled himself as a servant, placed others first. Imagine a King who washed the feet of his disciples. The bible says we should look unto Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith. We are to be like Christ who is our role model.


# 2 Defendant:

Children are not bothered with what to eat, what to wear or how to pay the bills. They don't care for any of these because they trust and rely on their parents to sort it out. A baby cry whenever she/he is hungry which is the only means of passing the message to his/her mother. The mother on the other-hand, goes out of her way to sort it out. Sometimes, they don't even need to cry, but the mother understands. Growing up as a child was very difficult, my parents didn't have much to take care of my siblings and I, but they provided anyway. I complained whenever I'm hungry, I didn't care. I was too young to understand, but they made sure, we had everything we needed.


As a Christian, it is very vital to depend solely on God for everything. Knowing the fact, you cannot do it on your own. Believers should depend on Him for direction, wisdom, Salvation, mercy and anything you can think of, just as the kids are so dependent on their parents for everything. We shouldn't be bothered with what to eat, what to wear or how to live in this wicked world, if we truly trust God.


Just like our earthly parents, they are responsible for their kids so is our heavenly Father. Being dependent on Him makes it easier for us to inherit the Kingdom of God and have eternal life in Christ Jesus. You can never be wiser than God, He made heaven and earth, it's only wise to depend on Him.      


# 3 Obedient:

This is the desire of every parents to have and raise kids that are very obedient to them, children who listen to them and always willing to do the right thing. Sometimes, parents feel so embarrassed when their child doesn't obey them. It breaks their heart and makes them sad. If your child is obedient and listens to you as a parent, it makes communication easier and give room to have a personal relationship with that child because you as a parent, will have access to lead and direct that child to the right path. 


A growing child need to be warned about some potential dangers out there which any good parent can comfortably provide. A child sees his/her parents as a role model until proven otherwise, they look up to them on how to handle situations in life.


As a Christian, obedience to God is not negotiable. It is very necessary in our spiritual  growth. The greatest commandment is love. Love God and keep keep His commandment which entails obeying His word. The bible tells us of the things we must do to have eternal life. We should be willing to do those things to inherit the kingdom of God.


# 4 Forgiveness:

This is very obvious! Being able to forgive is something kids do all the time. It's not a big deal for them to forgive their follow kid and move on. They don't bear grudges and are always willing to ask forgiveness from others whenever they've done something wrong. Scold a child this minute, and the next minute he/she is playing with you, but scold an adult right now, and she/he might not speak to you for months. 


The bible is very clear and direct on forgiveness. God commands us to forgive others even our enemies and those who do not forgive exhibit the fruit of the flesh. Lack of forgiveness give room for bitterness and hatred and as we all know our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which means it is our duty to make it habitable for the Holy Spirit through Christ that strengthen us.


It is not all about those that have hurt your feeling, but what goes on in your heart. Forgiveness simply means placing value on God's acceptance and forgiveness knowing fully well, you have to forgive others to be forgiven.

# In conclusion,

Some of these attributes can be difficult, but only if we try not to lean on our own understanding but allowing the spirit of God to work through us.
