*** It was made known that the International Criminal Court dismissed the appearance of the relatives of the alleged victims of human rights violations in Venezuela before the organization and, instead, noted that they will be attended directly through the office in the city of Caracas. "The chamber requires no further submissions to any observations by Venezuela on the applicable legal framework under article 18 of the statute," reads a document issued Friday. According to previous information, the decision includes the request of the State and the victims represented by their respective lawyers. Likewise, they ruled out the participation of third parties in the process since, according to the information provided, there are no grounds to include them beyond those involved in the case. Finally, they gave an additional term of 3 months to the Venezuelan State to comply with such request.

*** Claudio "Bichi" Borghi, former world champion football player with the Argentine national team in Mexico 1986, and Uruguayan journalist Ernesto Cherquis Bialo, made an analysis for Sputnik and revealed the possibilities and expectations of the teams that will represent Latin America in the tournament that starts on November 20. A few days before the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, expectations are growing about the role that Latin American teams will play. For world champion and current sports commentator Claudio Borghi, Argentina and Brazil "are the candidates of the South American teams", although he predicts a good performance from the other teams in the region.

*** The Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) announced this Friday that they will resume peace talks next Monday in Caracas, Venezuela. In a document signed by Danilo Rueda, High Commissioner for Peace, and Pablo Beltrán, ELN delegate, the return to the talks, frozen for four years, was made official. The communiqué ratified the deep desire of the Colombian people, society and the nation to advance in a process of peace and full construction of democracy.

*** Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski on Friday dismissed the idea of a "short truce" with Russia, considering that this would only make things worse. "Russia is now looking for a short truce, a respite to regain strength. Someone may call this the end of the war, but such a respite will only make the situation worse," the Ukrainian leader said in remarks delivered at the International Security Forum in Halifax, Canada. "A genuine, lasting and honest peace can only be the result of a complete termination of Russian aggression," Volodimir Zelenski said. The White House said earlier that only Zelenski can decide when to start peace talks with Russia, rejecting the idea that he was pressuring Kiev to negotiate an end to the nearly nine-month war.

*** UEFA has just notified all federations, including RFEF; that the deadline is open for them to notify those that want to participate with their national team in the European Under-21 Championship to be held from 2023 until the 2025 finals. The 55 associations dependent on UEFA have until Friday 27 January 2023 to notify. Among them the Spanish Federation regarding the intention of participation of the national team led by Luis De La Fuente. A competition in which only players born on or after January 1, 2002 will be able to participate. In other words, those who will be 21 years old as of January 1, 2002.

*** The Rimac Nevera supercar, with a total power output of more than 1,900 horsepower, has reached a top speed of 412 kilometers per hour, making it the fastest production electric car in the world, the Croatian manufacturer Rimac announced this week. "Traveling at 412 kilometers per hour means going at one-third the speed of sound," remarked driver Miro Zrncevic, who accomplished the feat. "Achieving this with a road car is incredibly complex," he explained. The milestone was set last October 28 on a test track in the German town of Papenburg. The circuit features an oval shape with two four-kilometer straights that allow acceleration to be pushed to the maximum.

*** The UN called for an explicit investigation of "all existing reports" of "human rights violations" taking place in the framework of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, said the UN secretary-general's deputy spokesman Farhan Haq, commenting on the mass execution of Russian military POWs, captives and unarmed prisoners of war, by Ukrainian troops. "We have urged all parties to the conflict to thoroughly investigate all reports of existing human rights violations, as well as to bring those responsible to justice," the spokesman told RIA Novosti.

*** The James Webb Space Telescope will retain its name despite criticism from some astronomers who refuse to call it that. The observatory was named in 2002 in honor of James Webb, NASA's second administrator between 1961 and 1968, a time when the agency was hard at work on the Apollo program and sending astronauts to the Moon. However, opponents of the name argue that Webb persecuted workers known or suspected to be in the LGBTQ+ community. For its part, NASA announced that "to date, no available evidence directly links Webb to any actions or persecution related to the firing of individuals based on their sexual orientation. "Based on the available evidence, the agency has no plans to change the name of the James Webb Space Telescope," NASA said Friday.

*** Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced in an interview with RIA Novosti published Friday that a former Renault plant in the Russian capital will revive production of an updated version of Moskvich cars, the iconic Soviet-era automobile brand. "Next week it will start its first assembly. And next year, hopefully, it will reach work volumes comparable to the periods when Renault was here," Sobyanin said. The Moscow plant, founded in 1930, was the original producer of Moskvich cars in Soviet times. In the early 2000s, Renault bought the plant and the Moskvich production line was discontinued.

*** Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the defunct biotech company Theranos, was sentenced Friday to more than 11 years in prison after being convicted of fraud. In detail, U.S. District Judge Edward J. Davila sentenced her to 11 years and 3 months in prison. In addition, upon her release, she must remain on probation for 3 years. "Looking back, there are many things I would have done differently had I had the opportunity. I regret my failures with every cell in my body," the 38-year-old former businesswoman, who is now pregnant, declared during the trial. It should be recalled that in January Holmes was found guilty of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy for having swindled her investors in order to raise funds for Theranos.
