It was 4pm when the phone rang, showing a landline number from Newtown in Victoria.  I erred because I do not answer calls that I don't know.  But, then my logical analytical brain took over, maybe it is one of the Melbourne family trying to ring.   In hindsight, I should have went with my intuition.  

As soon as I accepted the call I knew that it was not right, there was a pause after my hello, always a sure tell sign of a crank sales pitch kind of call.  And it was!   This deep mail slow speaking automated voice said:

*<center>This is from the tax office and you are being issued with a law suit .........</center>*

Really? I pressed the *end* button and felt a surge of annoyance.  My heart did a bit of a jolt, image how vulnerable oldies feel with  this fear producing message.  I hear about how they hand over bank detail.    My detective part of my brain took over, found the Australian Taxation Office number and rang them to report this scam call and to give them the landline number.  Surely, it can be traced.  

*" No it cannot, "* I was told by a nice guy called Dave,*" these scammers are generally off shore, they rent landline numbers so cannot be traced.  I know this number, it has been reported before and I can guarantee that there will be another 40 people reporting the same scam call in the next two work days."* 

Lesson learned, do not answer calls from unknown numbers Angie Mitchell!
