## The Settlers of Catan - another variant for two players

There's another good way to play with two players. The other day I described one with a predefined starting set-up. [1] Here is a variant for experienced players with variable game board and set-up phase.

Each player uses two colors. These are only addressed separately in the set-up phase and in road and settlement construction. So there must not be a mixed trade route. When placing during the set-up phase, the players and their player color alternate. Each player receives his starting resources for the second settlement of each color.

The rest of the game remains the same, with 14 to 16 victory points for two colors being sufficient to win the game (instead of 20 common points for two colours), so that the game duration does not become too long. Each player only cares about one resource stack and does not have to compete against his second color.

Each player can still have a maximum of seven resources in his hand when the robbers come to keep them. And which color you want to build is up to you for the rest of the game.

PS: Another tip. As you can see in the picture, we played with the option "Play it smart". It can only be configured for 3 or more players. However, the course of the game is not troubled if there is simply a third color not used in the game, for which no further treasures are collected.
