Reading, writing and baking - Language practice for little ones

<h3>Today we will learn how to find the Subjects and Object of a sentence and then we will have some fun with recipes and baking our own cookies by reading and following instructions.</h3>

<h3>Subject and object</h3>
<p><br></p>
<p>If we talk about a 'subject' it means the topic, what it is about, now in the same way we say that <strong>the subject of a sentence is the person or the thing the the sentence is about, the person or thing that does something.</strong> &nbsp;</p>
<p>For example: &nbsp;The man sits in the garden. &nbsp;(If you ask the question 'Who sits in the garden', your answer is going to be '<strong>The man' - that is the Subject of the sentence</strong>.)</p>
<p><strong>The object</strong> of the sentence will follow after the verb and will answer the question 'who or what'. &nbsp;<strong>This is the person or the thing the action is done to.</strong></p>
<p>For example: &nbsp;The man eats the apple. &nbsp;(What does he eat? - <strong>the apple - that is the object of the sentence</strong>)</p>

  <li><em><strong>Read the following sentences and circle the verb (doing word) and determine which words are the subject and which ones are the object</strong></em></li>

  <li><em>She ate the cake.</em></li>
  <li><em>He burnt the biscuits</em></li>
  <li><em>I like ice cream.</em></li>
  <li><em>My mother made us some food.</em></li>
  <li><em>I love to eat cookies.</em></li>
  <li><em>Peter is a hungry boy.</em></li>
  <li><em>The pizza is cheese and tomato.</em></li>
</ol>
<ul>
  <li><em><strong>Write 5 of your own sentences that has a subject and an object. &nbsp;Try and make interesting sentences and check your spelling.</strong></em></li>
</ul>
<h3>Writing my own recipe</h3>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="https://imgoat.com/uploads/3afdbd66e7/62178.png" width="400" height="400"/></p>

<p>A recipe gives us<strong> instructions on how to prepare something</strong> - the instructions must be written in the correct order and sometimes they number the steps so it it easy to follow.</p>
<p>For example:</p>
<p><strong>How to boil an egg</strong></p>
<ol>
  <li>Put the eggs you want to boil in a pot.</li>
  <li>Cover the eggs with water.</li>
  <li>Turn on the stove and put the pot on the stove.</li>
  <li>If the water starts boiling, keep it boiling for 4 minutes.</li>
  <li>Turn off the heat and remove the pot.</li>
  <li>The eggs are now ready to eat.</li>
</ol>
<ul>
  <li><em><strong>You are going to write your own recipe. &nbsp;You can either use a recipe from a recipe book and re-write it in your own words or you can 'invent' a recipe.</strong></em></li>
</ul>
<ol>
  <li><em>You need to have a list of ingredients.</em></li>
  <li><em>First write a rough draft of your recipe</em></li>
  <li><em>Check if you have the following - a name for your dish, the ingredients, the corrects steps to follow and if their are unknown words or difficult words, did you explain it?</em></li>
  <li><em>Write your recipe out neatly</em></li>
  <li><em>Try out your recipe if you want to.</em></li>
</ol>
