Hello everyone, today I'm taking you to a district in the centre of Paris, a little above the Marais, the Place de la République and the two stations in the north of the city. We are at the end of a rainy day, when the clouds finally break and let the light of the setting sun illuminate the tops of the buildings. <br>   <br> I love this time of day when everything is blazing and what better complement of colors than blues and oranges ? <br>  <br> In the Rue au Maire, the Chinese New Year is getting ready, but we have already decided to go there this Sunday. To be continued on this side ! This street is very lively and it's a whole neighborhood by itself, with lots of very good restaurants and other Asian shops. <br>   <br> Just a little further up, with your back to the Seine, you come across the church of Saint-Nicholas-des-Champs. Like many others, it's a place I've been wanting to visit for quite some time, but this one was always closed. Luckily, on this day, it was open ! <br>  <br> This is the main entrance, quite sober and in a 13th century gothic style. <br>   <br> Here are two images with details of the statues that border each side of the portal and as you may have already noticed, they are very dirty and blackened by car pollution. This, combined with the sometimes acid rain, is a real calamity for the buildings built in limestone, which are mostly in this material in Paris. But let's go into the church... <br>    <br> It's quite a small building, but it's still very beautiful ! I like these symmetries and all the geometry that governs the construction of these buildings, both outside and inside. <br>   <br> These are the two sides of this kind of small temple of classical inspiration which is just behind the altar. I couldn't get a good front view, there was an adoration with some faithful... <br>  <br> Some paintings adorn the various niches at the end of the church. This one in chiaroscuro is quite beautiful, but generally speaking, electric lighting in religious places is always a bit of a problem. Either they are too bright and hinder the contemplation - *and ruin your pictures ^^* - or they are non-existent and you can't see anything at all ! <br>   <br> The organ which is placed on the side which is quite unusual and a detail of the intertwined vaults which really look like trees with the pillars representing the trunks and the rest, the branches... I am convinced that this must have been an obvious inspiration for the people of that time. <br>   <br> A small niche just behind the altar, probably Jesus as a child with his foot crushing a snake... <br>  <br> The few candles left by the faithful who came to meditate. It's always a good atmosphere, I think there's no better light than a natural flame. <br>   <br> Last aisle of vaults and in another niche, a very beautiful statue with notably, a magnificent work of drapery in stone. <br>   <br> Outside, the sun has definitely set, but there is still some light. Right next to the church, you can find the building of the Musée des Arts et Métiers, a very beautiful place which houses a collection of techniques and arts following the course of history. Nous sommes à la fin d'une journée pluvieuse, lorsque les nuages se déchirent enfin et laissent la lumière du soleil couchant illuminer le hauts des immeubles. <br>   <br> J'aime cette heure où tout flamboie et quelle meilleure complémentarité des couleurs que celles des bleus et des oranges ? <br>  <br> Dans la rue au Maire, le Nouvel An Chinois se prépare, mais nous avons déjà décidé d'aller y faire un tour ce dimanche. À suivre donc de ce côté là..! Cette rue est très vivante et à elle seule, c'est déjà un quartier tout entier, on y trouve plein de très bons restaurants et d'autres magasins asiatiques. <br>   <br> Juste un peu plus haut, en remontant dos à la Seine, on tombe sur l'église Saint-Nicholas-des-Champs. Comme beaucoup d'autres, c'est un endroit où j'avais envie de me rendre depuis assez longtemps, mais celle-ci était toujours fermée. Coup de chance, ce jour-là, elle était ouverte ! <br>  <br> Voici l'entrée principale, assez sobre et dans un style gothique du XIIIème siècle. <br>   <br> Ici, deux images avec des détails des statues qui bordent chaque côté du portail et comme vous avez déjà pu vous en rendre compte, celles-ci sont très sales et noircies par la pollution automobile. Cela combiné aux pluies parfois acides constitue une véritable calamité pour les édifices construits en calcaire et qui sont majoritairement dans ce matériaux à Paris. Mais entrons dans l'église... <br>    <br> C'est un assez petit édifice, ce qui n'empêche pas que celui-ci soit très beau ! J'aime ces symétries et toute la géométrie qui régit la construction autant extérieure qu'intérieur de ces bâtiments. <br>   <br> Voilà les deux faces de cette sorte de petit temple d'inspiration classique qui est juste derrière l'autel. Je n'ai pas pu prendre d'images bien de face, il y avait une adoration avec quelques fidèles... <br>  <br> Quelques peintures ornent les différentes niches au bout de l'église. Celle-ci en clair obscur est assez belle, mais de façon générale, l'éclairage électrique dans les lieux religieux, c'est toujours un peu le problème. Soit ils sont trop voyant et gêne la contemplation - *et ruinent vos images ^^* - soit ils sont inexistants et on y voit rien du tout ! <br>   <br> L'orgue qui est placé sur le côté ce qui est assez inhabituel et un détail des voûtes entrecroisées qui ressemblent vraiment à des arbres avec les piliers qui figurent les troncs et le reste, les branches... Je suis convaincu que cela devait être une évidente inspiration pour les gens de cette époque. <br>   <br> Une petite niche juste derrière l'autel, probablement Jésus enfant que l'on voit écraser un serpent du pied... <br>  <br> Les quelques bougies laissées par les fidèles venus se recueillir. C'est toujours une ambiance qui fait du bien, je trouve qu'il n'y a pas de meilleur éclairage que celui d'une flamme naturelle. <br>   <br> Dernière allée de voûtes et dans une autre niche, une très belle statue avec notamment, un magnifique travail du drapé en pierre. <br>   <br> Au dehors, le soleil est définitivement couché, mais il subsiste un peu de lumière. Tout de suite à côté de l'église, on peu trouver le bâtiment du musée des Arts et Métiers, c'est un très bel endroit qui abrite une collection des techniques et des arts suivant le cours de l'histoire. Je n'y suis pas allé depuis longtemps et peut-être qu'une visite prochaine s'impose..? J'espère que vous aurez apprécié cette petite promenade à mes côtés !
