To tell you the truth, we were already in the forest during the storm and it was no laughing matter ! My K-way was soaked and fortunately I'd also brought an umbrella to protect my camera ! All the same, even though I thought a couple of times that I was going to be struck by lightning under the beech tree that served as my shelter, the adventure as a whole was powerful, strong, profound and quite simply magnificent. <br>  <br> So here we are, in a forest mainly made up of beech trees, one of my favorite trees because of its shape and elegance, and this place is also one of my favorites since I've been going to the Ardèche. This is the Astet forest, not far from the pass of the same name, before the plateau and the source of the river Ardèche that gives the region its name. <br>    <br> Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of water and therefore a mossy, particularly green environment. You don't necessarily realize it, but I'm under my umbrella right now, waiting for the storm to calm down so I can catch the nearest drops hanging on the thin branches of the beech trees. <br>  <br> Here's a free and unbridled specimen ! Its branches shoot out like whips, adding a terrific dynamism to the whole... <br>   <br> A little further on I find a shepherd's hut and take refuge in it until the rain eases off. I've always dreamt of spending a whole week in a similar shelter, cut off from everything with good books to read and then just Nature to observe... maybe it'll happen sooner than expected. You just never know ! <br>    <br> The hunt for drops is on again... <br>   <br> It's quite simple, they're everywhere, on as many branches and twigs as there are trees... <br>   <br> And that means drops ! <br>   <br> With a little patience, I manage to get one in the middle of a fall ! <br>  <br> Fortunately, at some point the rain stopped altogether and I was able to set off again, although I had to be careful of the drops falling from the trees... <br>   <br> What majesty these trees have ! Frankly, I think that if we're looking for the most beautiful and intelligent thing in the living world, we shouldn't look for so long... and just go to a forest ! <br>  <br> I walk down to the river and come across this magnificent waterfall, the flow of which is still soaked from the recent rain. I try a slightly slower exposure time and I think I'm quite happy with the result :) <br>   <br> The walk continues and I come across more and more low, mossy walls. I must be approaching an old hamlet or crossroads... <br>  <br> Here it is, with all its different directions ! <br>   <br> The walls continue their silent traces and we like to imagine what the forest must have looked like when men walked through it on a daily and more sustained basis... <br>  <br> On the way back, I photograph this last beech, the king of the forest! Afterwards, I put my camera away for a while, as I'm still carrying my umbrella and I'm beginning to lose interest in being vigilant ^^ ! <br>    <br> But here we are, back in the world of meadows and pastures, the kind that humans take care of more. But that doesn't stop us from admiring the superb red clover and the silent, graceful flight of this little blue butterfly. I hope you enjoyed this walk with me. Mon K-way était trempé et heureusement, j'avais aussi prévu le coup avec un parapluie pour protéger mon appareil photo ! Pour autant, même si j'ai pensé deux trois fois que j'allais être foudroyé sous le hêtre qui me servait d'abri, l'aventure dans l'ensemble a été puissante, forte, profonde et tout simplement magnifique. <br>  <br> Nous sommes donc dans une forêt principalement composée de hêtres, un de mes arbres favoris par son port et son élégance et cet endroit est aussi un de mes préférés depuis que je vais en Ardèche. Il s'agit de la forêt d'Astet, non loin du col du même nom, avant le plateau et les sources de la rivière Ardèche qui donne son nom à la région. <br>    <br> Sans surprise, on trouve beaucoup d'eau et donc un environnement moussu et particulièrement vert. On ne s'en rend pas forcément compte, mais là je suis sous mon parapluie et en attendant que l'orage se calme, je prends les gouttes les plus proches accrochées aux fines branches des hêtres. <br>  <br> Voilà un spécimen libre et effréné ! Ses branches partent comme des fouets et dynamisent terriblement l'ensemble... <br>   <br> Un peu plus loin je trouve un abri de berger et je m'y réfugie jusqu'à ce que la pluie diminue. J'ai toujours rêvé de passer une semaine entière dans un abri similaire, coupé de tout avec de bons livres à lire et puis juste la Nature à observer... peut-être que cela arrivera plus tôt que prévu. On ne sait jamais ! <br>    <br> La chasse aux gouttes reprend... <br>   <br> C'est bien simple, elles sont partout, autant de branches, brindilles que d'arbres... <br>   <br> Et donc de gouttes ! <br>   <br> Avec un peu de patience, j'arrive à en obtenir une en pleine chute ! <br>  <br> Heureusement, à un moment la pluie cesse tout à fait et je peux donc me remettre en route en continuant toutefois à prendre gare aux gouttes qui tombent des arbres.. <br>   <br> Quelle majesté on ces arbres ! Franchement, je crois que si on cherche la chose la plus belle et la plus intelligente à la fois du règne du vivant, on ne devrait pas chercher si longtemps.. et juste aller dans une forêt ! <br>  <br> Je descends un peu vers la rivière et je tombe sur cette magnifique cascade dont le flux est encore gorgé par la pluie récente. J'essaye un temps de pose un peu plus lent et je crois que je suis assez satisfait du résultat :) <br>   <br> La marche reprend et je trouve de plus en plus de murets moussus à souhait. Je dois approcher d'un ancien hameau ou bien d'un carrefour... <br>  <br> En effet, le voici avec ses différentes directions ! <br>   <br> Les murs continuent leurs tracés silencieux et on se plaît à imaginer ce à quoi la forêt devait ressembler lorsque des hommes la sillonnaient de façon quotidienne et plus soutenue... <br>  <br> Sur le chemin du retour, je photographie ce dernier hêtre, le roi de la forêt ! Après je range un peu mon appareil, je suis toujours avec mon parapluie et je commence à ne plus avoir envie d'être vigilant ^^ ! <br>    <br> Mais nous voilà de nouveau dans le monde des près, des pâturages, celui que les humains entretiennent davantage. Ce qui ne nous empêche pas d'admirer de superbes trèfles incarnats ainsi que le vol silencieux et gracieux de ce petit papillon bleu. J'espère que vous aurez apprécié cet balade à mes côtés. We have some similar ancient catacombs hidden in the forest in Romania too which I bet you'll love to explore. I'm not sure about the trees growing up there though as I haven't explored them yet but nature is amazing no matter the trees 🥰
